M2 back from hospital!

Yea! The M2 is back from hospital! It's still battle scared (or was it just life that did it all to it?) but the insides work sooooo smoothly now. Ohmygod, did I just have a wet dream? :p

I hope the leather will be here some time next week. But in the meantime I'm gonna run a roll through it, and test my J-12 35/2.8.

Rover, yes. It's supposedly not difficult. And there's a picture guide on Cameraleather. I hope all goes well. I can hardly wait to see the result.
 
I also just received the two 28/90 adapters I had bought on eBay recently. Now I can add the J-9 85/2 and have the 90mm framelines on both the M2 and the CL.
The other adapter is for the CV 25/4. The 28mm framelines on the CL will be wide enough.

So now I'm ready to go to Mongolia. I'll bring the M2 and the CL. I'll also bring the CV 25/4, the J-12 35/2.8 (if only to put it through some more tests), the M-Rokkor 40/2, the J-8 50/2, and the J-9 85/2.

Dang! Lots of lenses! :)

I really need to test that J-12. It's been sitting in the cupboard for well over a year now, and has never been used in a real life situation.

The Rokkor 40 is just a really nice lens. It's sharp but not harsh. It's a wonderful focal length, not too wide and not too long.

The J-8 gives a very nice softness to a shot. It'll be perfect to shoot some shots with a classic feel to them. And G knows Ulaanbaatar needs some smoothness.

You can see I need all those lenses. :)
 
You must have a big bag, Remy! ;) I do like that Jupiter-8 of yours, you've got some wonderful shots in your gallery with that lens. Is that an old one or a recent one? Or does that make any difference? Clearly it's an outstanding optic (of course the photographer is brilliant too)... :)
 
actually, the bag is quite small. I'm never touching the Eos anymore because it's so big, so I'll be damned before I bring a big bag. :)

My J-8 is a silver one. The serial is 017xxx. Some time ago there was a thread here on RFF from which I learned that my specimen is from 1978, if I recollect correctly. Anyway, it was from the late 70s or early 80s. I was quite surprised by that. I guess that any J-8, early or late, black or silver, in I-61 barrel or not, will produce results as nice as mine did.

I don't know why I got so fond of this lens. Perhaps because I'm too cheap to buy expensive lenses. :) I tried the I-26, the I-61 L/D, and the collapsible I-50. None of which I particularly liked. The I-61 L/D is an exception in that it was an OK lens, until I started to use the J-8. I've nevr looked at the other lenses since. :)
 
Great to hear the M2 is back and running smoothly. Amazing what benefits acrue from cleaning out dirty old lube and putting in some new. I too was surprised and delighted at the improvement when my M2 had a CLA last year... at least for its first time in 35 years!
 
I'm happy too. The M2 is now a completely different thing from what I received in the mail a few weeks (or is months already?) ago.

If that leather gets here quickly I could even attempt to persuade Richard to let me enter another photo for the RFF back cover: one of a pink leather Leica M2. :)
