Congrats Ash! My first Leica, purchased in 1982, was the M2 with lever rewind and self timer and same lens as yours. I still remember how special it felt to use that Leica. I still get that feeling with my current MP and older M models. Enjoy each film advance!

Keith, I've only had it for 30 minutes, not a few hours! Gimme the rest of the day for test shots. I want to pop into town and get a flash sync adapter too. That's your lens on the front of it as well!

There was a M2 for sale and I didn't buyit! Congratulations Ash. The M2 is in my opinion the best Leica made. It is fine with the 50, but it does cry out for a 35!
Chase down a UV filter for the front of that collapsible Summicron. They are very prone to scratching - even a light cleaning will do it. May you use a lot of film with it and may most of your exposures be perfect ( all of them perfect means that you spend too much time metering!).
To paraphrase Amex -Never leave home without it.

You need a hood, I liked the avtar as is was really soft and low contrast, you always need a hood with the 7 element crons, even when they are/were new, at least my two did 30 years ago.

Agreed. Heavystar on ebay has a great vented hood for cheap that made a world of difference with my collapsible 'cron. That said the two should make a wonderful package for you. Enjoy!

I felt the same when I got my first M, a 1957 M 3 DS, a truly great camera which is a joy to use. Couldn't say the same about the 50 Summicron, c. 1980: great optics, but pretty uninspiring mechanics.
