M2 on the way

That about says it all: now I have to find a 35mm lens to my (as you all know, fairly eclectic) tastes.

There has been some serious M2 buying here recently...
Merciful, FrankS, me... did I miss anyone?

Now do we talk Rover into one as well? :D He's looking for a Leica M I believe

Stu :)

I need to make a phone call or two today. I won't be looking for an M2 right now, since I have sold everything and need to buy my main camera in which I want a meter. But I may have some money left over with which who knows what I will do.

Stu, I've also recently acquired an M2, and I'm really enjoying it. Merciful, I'm using it w/ a 50mm M-Hexanon, a lens you owned, and they work flawlessly together.

My M2 came covered w/ Cameraleather's BR green covering, and it looks quite unique. And it didn't need a CLA (tested at all speeds against my SLR w/ identical subjects and lighting), though the perfectionist in me would like to send it off to have it completely checked out. Haven't posted any photos yet, though I may soon.

You will certainly enjoy the M2. There has been a LOT of M2's and M3's picked up here in the last week. I really do believe that they have the best viewfinder/rangefinder of anything that I have used. Loading takes some getting used to. Buying the second take up spool really helped me out. They are certainly the quietest focal plane shutter camera that I have used, and the CLA'd SS M3 is quieter than my Retina IIIS with its Compur shutter. As long as you do not need a built-in meter, I think the M2 and M3 are the best deals out there for Leica models.

If any of you plan on getting an ever-ready case, the original case made to hold the camera with "eyes" type lens attached is much better made than the standard ever-ready case. They are not too expensive at ~$30; mine was under $20 on "auction".

Brian, do you have a good source for the take-up spools? Any RFF members have one to sell? Also, I understand you've had good luck w/ Essex in NJ. What's the typical turn around for a CLA? Thanks.

I got it on eBay, from a reputable fellow quite clear about what was perfect and not-so about the body.

I've always found my M3 extremely easy to load, once I discovered the trick of checking through the door to guarantee that the sprocket had engaged perfectly.

Don't try to buy a spool from Chatterton: he'll send you a hood and you'll never hear from him again.

JJA: I picked up my spare spool at a Photorama show for $10. I will keep an eye open for more.

Essex typically turns around a camera in under three weeks back to my house: Priority Mail going up, and UPS coming back. My M3 that I bought from JD was 16 days. Same with the M3 DS, 14 days. The M2 required two months because parts (rewind gears) were back ordered from Germany. I new the rewind was blown out when I bought it on EBay, but the price was very low for an otherwise good M2.

If you need a typical CLA on the M2, EMail them for a quote. Enclose the check, and it is considered "pre-Approved". The M3 CLA was $158, the M2 should be in the same ballpark.

HEY! Where is Joe? I get this image of him Sobbing away that all of these Leica's are finding their way over here. JOE!!!!!! Where Are YOU!

You know, Leica's are kind of nice, but the Canon P was voted the best rangefinder ever here at RFF!

actually i'm very happy for all you guys buying up all those leicas. i am sorry that you've not seen the light and have entered into the dark side but, hey, it's all about free will.

and being quite selfish, have you seen the price of canon gear and lenses lately?
going up and it's a trend i don't like.
canon is just crap and only a blind fool would buy that stuff!!
(too strong?)
i gotta get the prices to start dropping somehow.

yeah leica, king of the rangefinders!!

Congrats, Merciful, on joining the M2 ownership ranks! I believe Remy got his fairly recently too... recall his recovering it pink, and then gold. I've had my M2 forever...
