M2 problem - shutter? curtain?

It's due to the first curtain bearing surfaces haveing excess friction due to lack of lubricant. Adjusting the tension can help, but it's better to get the clean the old residue and get new lube in there, as the problem is still there if the spring is wound tighter. Like making your broken leg feel better by drinking whiskey.
Youxin Ye told me that usually the speeds and curtain action go back to specification in the M cameras just from the act of cleaning and lubing them.

Getting the oil in the right places is more involved than opening the bottom access plate, but once oiled you're good for another decade or two.

As promised, here is the repairman's diagnosis:

"This is a typical example of a camera that needs CLA. The second curtain travels faster than the first one, due to rancid, thickened en dirty lubricant.
The solution is simple; CLA.
Costs about 150 euro ex V.A.T. and shipping. The camera will be in top condition again and the viewfinder will be bright and crispy.
If you would like to know more about the technical details of this problem, then give us a call."
