M2: Shooting in the rain.

I think the key thing is after the camera gets wet (more than a few drops of water), don't stick it inside your coat or have your hand over the viewfinder for protection or it will steam up inside, end of photo session, and may even get condensation on your film.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I guess if my Canon 10D can take some rain, the Leica will have no problem. As Tom said, if I can take the weather, I guess the M2 can take it too.
And Roger, I don't think I'd have the guts to use an M9 in the rain 😱 I guess if the digitals are still ok, I'm gonna be fine with the M2. It's kinda annoying to have to be so careful with my other cameras, although one time I needed to take some pictures in heavy rain and my 10D was exposed for about a minute and it's still going.
 
Yeh, I do it all the time. Actually, i'm a seeker for rainy days. Never had a problem, just take precautions to wipe the water once in a while and when you're done !
 
i too am a seeker for cloudy or rainy days. if you are at all concerned about the camera, take any common leica III variants which can be replaced (if required) for less amount of money. otherwise, use your Ms. i carry 2 leica IIIc with me when i go trekking for their size, robustness, and ease of replecement should they be stolen or damaged. i keep my exposed film in a special waterproof and bombproof vault of my backpack 🙂
 
I do use my M2 in the rain all the time. But I am quick to wipe off any water droplets that accumulate on the top and sides. I keep it under a jacket or coat most of the time. Works great without any problems.
 
I agree with all the comments above. For sure Tom would know how to work a Leica living in Vancouver aka the "wet coast". I've an M4P and I've used it in rain but not by choice.

Shooting in prolonged or heavy rain I haul out my Nikonos III. For about $200 - #250 you can have a totally rain/waterproof camera with excellent Nikon glass. Something to think about.
 
Hmmm....this thread has two possibilities. Either the question centers around how to use the M2 or other body when shooting in the rain (the answer is, of course, yes, it can be done quite easily with various methods), or, my personal interest....the questions asks about the results of those responding.

Only two photos were posted so far...anyone care to post more? Some good photos might inspire me to pull out the M3 on the next rainy, dreary, wasted day!😉
 
To Ulrich. Yes I was using the meter on the m6 in the rain. I was also using the 35mm summicron version IV. I don't hesitate to use my Leicas in the rain. If I couldn't, I wouldn't own them.
 
If I couldn't use my M9s in the wet there would be no point in having them.
That being said I did lose a new D300 in floods a couple of years ago but it makes a fine paperweight now.
Did drop an M4P into a river in Kashmir year before last. Wiped it down and dried it out on a radiator at a Pakistani Army post overnight. Worked fine until I got back to 'civilization' and had it CLA'd and still use it now.
 
On a sidenote, one of the films from that rainy day got a bit condensation, so some frames are umm not so perfect. Oh and the lens is off to be serviced. Just as it started raining again and I wanted to take some pictures..
