Hi, I bought an M2 a little while ago and the first roll i put through it was spot on, but since then it's become a little sporadic.

The second roll was mostly ok, but with an occasional diffuse dark patch to the left of the image. I didn't record the exposures so can't identify any pattern. However, I recently made a test strip (identical exposures, cycling through shutterspeed/aperture combinations) which showed a sharper dark band to the right.

(Examples attached)

Now, has anyone encountered this problem before? I'm assuming that there's curtain lag somewhere but is it likely to be as simple a fix as cleaning and lubricating and could I do it myself?

A CLA might seem trivial to the GAS afflicted denziens of this board but as a student that would be a fair chunk of money and I'd prefer to have it fixed asap rather than wait for a professional...

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks! 🙂

I have a similar problem with M2, though not with such a dramatic effect. at higher speeds I sometimes get a shot similar to yours, but without the band on the left. and at 1/15th I often get a stripe on the right side. have you tested your slow speeds? I can see how the first curtain stops right before finish and closes when the 2 curtain slides over, creating a stripe on the right side of the image.

I havent brought mine for repair yet.

I would send it to a pro for a cla. I have a M2 and after putting up witha few issues I finally sent it in for a cla. Wow....it's like having a new camera. I liked my M2 and now it's my favorite rf to shoot with. It's worth the time and money to get it adjusted properly.

I used Sherry Krauter at http://www.sherrykrauter.com/repairs.php and she is excellent.

One option which might help is to dry fire the shutter about 300 times at each speed. this should improve things but still might not be acceptable.

If the shutter locks up shifting gently to another speed should clear it.

Sorry

Not sure about bounce, this more like capping to me. Either way the shutter needs a CLA. CRR is good but you will need to phone and book it in. At least with capping, you might get a short term improvement by exercising the shutter as Noel suggests.

Youxin Ye here in Boston can fix that straight away, for less than 100 us.
With the dollar at maybe an all-time low against many other currencies, it may well be cheaper for you to ship over the pond and have Youxin do the service even with shipping involved.
