Hiya,

I am wanting to buy a strap for my M2 and know which one I want (neoprene one for comfort, not out for style points here) but my M2 came with no rings attached to the stubs on the body.

Apparently I need some split D rings?

I can find these in hardware stores but are they the right type? I can see brass ones (or brass plated) but would prefer chrome or nickle or something silver in colour.

The size he mentioned was 3/8", now most things in the UK hardware wise seem to be sold in metric (I'm one of those Brits who gets on better with the old measurements) -- I can see split D rings for 1cm which comes out fairly close to 3/8"

Seems an innocuous thing and I just want it to be sturdy and not look too stupid on my M2 (ie: brass would look stupid) but likewise don't want to spend a bomb on them either!

All ideas appreciated 🙂 Once I have these split D rings I'll be able to order the strap,

thanks,
Vicky

There is a Leica strap with a rubber pad (says Leica on the pad) for your shoulder, which I find soft, non slipping, and comfortable. It has built-in rings, which are sheathed with a rubber material so as to keep the camera from being abraded.

Wow thank you for the super quick replies.

The supplier of the strap doesn't have any and I have finally found something that my local camera shop doesn't have (and they have had everything in the past)

Someone mentioned a Leica strap here. Is there a model number available? I don't want to spend a huge amount, just something that will be durable, comfortable (ie: imagine walking with it around your neck for 2 weeks for 130+ miles) -- I don't have any old cameras to cannibalise unfortunately 🙁

Very wary of turning this into a another strap thread which I know there are plenty of.

I can see this one on WarehouseExpress's site:

I can't see any loops on that item mind.

Thanks!
Vicky

Vicky,

Most camera split rings are 14-15mm. I make my own camera straps - and finding them was the hardest part. I´ll send you a pair.

I bought 2 on ebay - see item # 370161614276 and I have round spilt rings I picked up in a crafts store. They had many sizes and types, and I think there were 10 in a pack.

Talk to Luigi, look in the cool links here at RFF, left nav., for "Luigi's Leicatime".

He runs a high-end boutique camera store, mostly Leica, (in Italy) and is a real old-fashioned gentleman.

His website is a bit eccentric, and his English is not 100%. He's a good honest guy and he will see you right.

One of his sideline products is hand made leather camera straps, and if you explain to him what you want/need he will surely oblige as a special order. As the straps are all hand made I'm certain you can discuss colors, stitching options, and the correct rings for your camera.

m2 strap

m2 strap

I bought a leather strap on ebay for my M2 from china it came with split rings was a bit stiff at first but now I really like it and it only cost about £12 and looks kinda retro. The other kind of strap i really like is upstrap which are great if you like to carry your camera on the shoulder rather than around the neck

M2 Strap Rings?

Hi,

I think that it should not be hard for you to find some chrome rings in harware stores. They should cost some cents, and even here in Montemor I could find some, although not exactly the size I wanted. Looking in any bigger town should be very easy...

To protect the camera bodies from scratches, I just cut some coin shaped pieces of leather with a little hole in the middle, so that the rings don't rub the surface of the camera (it avoids noise too).

I just did it some days ago to my Varex IIb, as you can see in a post I made recently in my blog about the "sunken mount" Tessar, if you feel like taking a look on the link below.

I use that kind of "arrangement" on M2, M3 (also with the Leitz leather strap), Nikon, Rolleiflex SL35...

With time the piece of leather becomes very soft and confortable and doesn't interfere in any way with your shooting.

Of course, you can ask Luigi instead!

Cheers,

Rui
