M2

I have acquired an M2 that's in too nice of a condition for me to just use it. So I want to sell it and buy a user conditioned one.

But I have no idea how to price this one. Any suggestion is much appreciated.

M2, purchased in 1960/02/17 almost never used. Everything is mint, except a small mark on the tripod thread on bottom plate. VF is PERFECT. everything works as expected.

You should use it. It has been neglected in it's intended purpose long enough!

That really is beautiful. Even better than mine. You could just use it you know, if you want an M2. It is not as if the premium you get will be so great. Probably less than the CLA you might need to do on the user M2 you intend to buy, and you'll feel a whole lot better about the significant cost of a good CLA going into this one, if it needs it, which it might, especially if so unused.

Ask $1400 and see how you go. One recently CLAed and looking as good as this or not as good sold here for that a couple of years ago. My worry buying it would be that it will need a CLA, putting the whole cost up to 1700. A collector might want this. But a nice button rewind is not so rare, and maybe the interested collectors already have one. So, see my first post.....

Yeah, it's so beautiful. Funny I don't have any problem using my m9 as is, but this thing has no electronics, it's timeless. I have much more affection towards it.

You would be lucky to find the kind of collector type who'd pay a significant premium over typical M2 prices. It might happen but more likely not. Meanwhile do NOT sell it with that lens. Sell the lens separately. The lens if it's clean and working properly will fetch good money.

One good test of what the going prices are can be to do an "advanced" search on eBay of "Completed Listings". You'll see there is a big difference between what sellers ask and what buyers pay.

If you feel that affection for it, damn, use it son. if you sell it for 1200 and pick up a user for 700 so you have 500, the other guy's using it, and you no longer have the beautiful one that you felt so fond of.

Life is too short to sell our pleasure for $500. Unless we're broke. Which sometimes we sure are.....

I've used mine extensively for 35 years and I have barely put a mark on it. It came with the scuff marks from the Leicameter. Yours has never had a Leicameter on it.

I would also keep and use it. You might never again have the opportunity to pick up an M2 in that sort of condition at a price that is affordable. It is a delightful looking camera. If you do replace it with a user condition M2, there is no guarantee that the replacement will save you money: in the long run it might cost you more on CLA and repairs. FWIW, I wouldn't let a camera like that slip through my fingers - I'd hang onto it and use it for what it was designed. Unless there are serious financial reasons for selling it, that is.

If you are going to sell that camera you might not be able to fetch the money it would sell for at the well known places (aka Westlicht, Meister Kamera, Lemonsha) but if you are in the market to buy such a camera you most probably will never find a nice one like your`s for a good price so pick your choice. Personally, I would keep and use it. 🙂

+1. If you put it in a leather half-case, it will be protected well enough against most bumps and dents. Just avoid using a Leica-Meter in the shoe. They tend to scratch the top plate.

That's impressive. All of my cameras end up with marks. Lenses too, well the bodies do, not the glass.

I'd just sell it to a collector and buy one that's used and neglected. That way an M2 is used the way it's supposed to and one piece of history is saved. And you can pocket a lot of cash.

It is a M2 in really nice shape - however. M2's are still reasonably priced and if you sell this one and buy a user - you would not make that much of a profit. Rather put this one to good use, check all its functions and if OK, just load it up and go forth shooting. Considering how little use it has had so far - it should last you the next 20-30 years.

And to carry that analogy further: not using a camera because it is too pristine and wear marks would decrease its value, is like not having relations with a girl(/boy) friend because it would make her less desirable to her next boyfriend.
