I want an M10. Why? Because it is a great camera with good high ISO and EVF, and it is just as thin as my film M cameras.
Seriously, I never thought it would be an issue, but it is; I really like the feeling of holding my film M's (say the M2). The M9 is thicker and it's noticeable. Not enough to make me hate the camera, but yeah I wish it was just like my film Ms. The 240 is really noticeably thicker -- on the verge of just too thick. It's really bothersome when I switch between my various M bodies (film and digital) during a given day....the 240 feels so dang fat. But, it is a great camera with all the features I value so I live with it.
The M10 is as thin as a film M! And, it has the necessary digital qualities of a 240. I will eventually get an M10. Obviously.
Now would I recommend a M240 today. Yes! It has all the good qualities I want with only a few negatives. It seems silly that body thickness is the top negative quality I can think of. Hopefully that provides some perspective.

I read M10 users pages on LUF. Never seen so many failure reports for any other camera before. I think, it surpassed M9 on it. Hilarious memory card failures, failed shutters, crappy ISO dial and so on.
Last thing I want for my money is used M10. Pay thousands of dollars and wait if it is going to happen and then deal with so-so and remote service.
Used M240 with its much lower price makes more sense.
New M10, maybe, as long as service isn't too far.

This is true - you could buy two M240 cameras for the price of one used M10. If the M240 breaks, you could still buy another and probably come out ahead.

The body thickness of an M8, M9, and M240 are identical. The only thing that makes the M240 "thicker" is the thumb bump (or whatever they're calling it).... The M9 is thicker and it's noticeable. ... The 240 is really noticeably thicker -- on the verge of just too thick. ...
Don't believe me? Measure the base plates.
The M240 only feels thicker because it's almost 100 grams heavier.

I still won't make big fuzz about difference.

Thanks for the illustration of thickness difference, Ko.Fe. It is as I remember it.
Bill, I have M9s and I had an M240 for a while. I compared the base plates, as that is the most accurate way of seeing the difference. The M240 was definitely chunkier. Moreover, my theory is that the M240's skin is smoother and harder to grip than the M9, so exacerbating the difference in weight and thickness.

I'm going on 2 years since I got my MP240 and it has been a joy. I bought my camera used from a dealer and I've had zero issues. Do I notice that it is thicker than my film MP? Yes, but it's not a difference that makes a difference.

am not foreseeing getting M10 variant for least 5 years. M10-R with 40+mp will probably be it eventually. still happy with M240 and eying for second body (or alternatively M9).

For a while I owned an M240P, M246 (both purchased second-hand) and M262 I bought new in 2016. Only one I still own and will continue to is the M262, which is substantially lighter than either of the other two.

The biggest advantage of the M240 series, besides the price, is that they seem to (almost) bug-free. Very reliable cameras.
Eventually, the M10 may get to that point as well.

I understand that thickness is not a big deal for some people. It's not that big of a deal for me, and I tried to call attention to the fact that thickness is among the only negatives I can find with the 240.
It does remain the primary reason I will eventually get an10. I'm not in a hurry.... if there are bugs to settle in the10, they will probably be settled when I get one.

I have had a 240 since 2013. Maybe longer. Solid camera. Versatile. Responsive. Bug-free. You can get a cheap EVF for it thanks to Olympus. The multifunction grip gives it GPS and real flash capabilities. It has video (which is actually pretty cool on the 246...). This was way too much of a system camera for Leica. But it has no less resolution than an M10, better battery life, and it's a fraction of the price. It's cheaper to get glasses (or a magnifier or diopter) than it is to upgrade to an M10 just "because."
I might go for the M10M to replace my M246, but the value proposition of an M10R for color is pretty poor, and Jono Slack's comments about focus bracketing are not comforting to anyone with a lot of vintage lenses.

Exactly my thoughts. I will only "replace" my M240 if it breaks beyond repair.

The more I look at this picture, the more off it seems. The base plate in front is either from an M8 or M9. The brass on the base plate in the back (supposedly from an M240) is thicker; This is not the case in actuality. So what are actually we looking at?

That's a very sharp observation Bill. I also wonder where that back base plate is from. I don't recall my M240 base plate being that thick.
However, it definitely was wider when I compared it to the M9.

I just made a cursory check of thickness of my M9 and M240. I can say that the 240 is thicker.... perhaps 2mm or so? I can pull out the dial indicator and make precise measurements later.

I think will get one for my birthday today. May have to sell off some more gear to be completely not out of pocket. Already have a 50mm summicron too.

Maybe more like 1mm... I compared the baseplate from my M8 vs the M240, and it's very little difference in width... but there is a difference. And it's visually obvious when looking at the two top plates. I don't mind!I just made a cursory check of thickness of my M9 and M240. I can say that the 240 is thicker.... perhaps 2mm or so?
