M240 Screen Protection

The Giottos SP83022 Schott Glass screen protector is a near-perfect fit on the LCD of the M typ240. This is marketed for Nikon 1 V1, J1, and V2 cameras.

The LCD measures 70mm x 49mm and has a narrow blank border that is not used for imaging, and similarly a wider unused bar at right.

The Giottos 3022 series measures 69mm x 49mm, has a narrow black border, and a wider black bar at the right, closely matching the Leica screen.

The first digit of the Giottos part number indicates variations with different numbers of anti-reflection coatings; 83022 has 12 coating layers.

I received a Giottos SP83022 today and applied it to the M screen, fitting beautifully. The adhesive on this item is only a thin stripe under the outside edges.

The other way is probably go Luigi case with rare cap or cases with similar design. It looks elegant and give you a feeling of shooting film--- just don't look back : )

For screen protector, you can always go anything matching the size of the LCD. Probably GGS makes one.

I have always a roll of ductape around that should do it 😉.
Because 90% of all repairs can be fixed with ductape or WD40 😀

I got a very reasonable protector on ebay from an outfit called AMAXX or something close to that. I had Giottos on all my cameras but for some reason the two Fuji cameras would break the protector. They are dangerous when they break, the AMAXX ones are a type of plastic and do get scratched after a while but at their price it isn't a problem.

I would run with the Expertshield film protector. It's die-cut perfectly, sits flush with the frame, and doesn't come off. I've used a lot of glass protectors, and eventually they suck dust in - and sometimes contact the screen itself.

I had the ACMAXX protector but found that it was easily dislodged. Not a major problem but annoying nonetheless. I switched to the Giottos and haven't had any such issues.

So far I'm still using the protector that came on it from Leica. I cut off the little remover tab upper right corner, so far it hasn't begun to pull away. If and when it does, I've got a sheet of Besk Skins (same stuff as Zagg) which I've used on my M8, M9 and a host of others with good results so I'll probably cut a piece of that an install it. (I don't really care if it's not crystal clear, I only use the screen for menus.)

Duct tape surely would protect the screen. ;-)

I'm not sure why it's called helicopter tape, though I've heard it's used on the leading edge of the carbon fiber blades to protect them. I use it for bicycle frames to protect the paint from scratching by the various cable housings and the drive chain. It's available clear. And the adhesive is pretty strong. Once applied, as long as you don't capture any air pockets, it's practically invisible.

But I don't know how it would affect pixel peeping on the screen.
