M3+2/50 'cron collaps' + summaron + (probably) rigid 50 summicron...

this is probably a stupid question,
but I have an option on a user ('user' as in: 'not sure if working or not') M3 with a collapsible f2/50 summicron and hood, a 35mm summaron + 35mm finder and what looks like a rigid 50mm summicron (not sure on that though, might be an old summilux or something completely different as well ^^) for €500 (/ ~USD 630)...
worth it?

I should mention that the seller doesn't have the slightest clue about cameras. especially leicas.

A "user" is typically working well, but not pretty. Brassing, some scratches and dings.

Provided that it is working and you have an inspection period, that is a great price.

my M2 is one hell of a 'user' and I'm loving it to death. it's not pretty, but oh it IS beautiful.

If the lenses are in good order then this is great value for the glass alone. A working M3 would be a bonus.

True that! My M3 with Rigid Summicron and a 9cm Elmar was about the price you are getting yours for. I put another $130 into a CLA, and it is the perfect user.

Uncertainty is not your friend, and tends to lower prices. If you have an opportunity to handle the gear before committing to buy, that would remove a lot of uncertainty. Good luck with this, either way you go. 🙂

Easy math: in the unlikely event everything is bust and you need to sell it off for parts, you would have to earn an average EUR 125 per piece to get your money back.

Now, who would not pay that kind of cash for an M3 for parts, or a rigid / collapsible 'cron, or a Summaron with finder? Having lens hoods and filters etc. included further tips the scale in your favour.

Make sure about the 'crons though, if they turn out to be a fungus invested Summarit and an Elmar, its a whole different ball game. Fungus is the deal killer, as is a desilvering prism in the M3 RF. CCR Luton in UK repairs, but shipping included that will take GBP 200.

oh, important update:

in addition to the leica kit, I might get a Zeiss Ikon Super Nettel for another ~100€.
I think I'm going to look at what else the fellow has, spend a lot of money and then just sell what I don't feel like keeping.

alright, here's what I got:

-leica m3 body (with original leather strap. viewfinder ok, rangefinder ok - needs a slight adjustment though, backdoor vulcanite missing and unfortunately a jammed shutter...)
-summaron 35mm f3.5 (M version; good used condition)
-35mm leitz finder (very bright and clear, little dent on the housing; good, used condition)
-summicron 50mm f2 collapsible (good, used condition - even better than the summaron)
-original hood that is meant for both lenses (sorry I've had a lot of booze right now, I do not remember the full code/name)
-90mm f2.8 elmarit, visoflex lens (good, used condition)
-black zeiss ikon super nettel (with original leather nevereverreadycase. very good condition, apparently fully working)


400€ altogether, eventually. I think I did ok.

this was taken with the 'new' (to me) 50mm collaps' summicron! the nettel is halfway through a roll of rollei retro 100, and I've got a few more shots, mainly taken with the 50 'cron, scanned and ready, I might upload some of them later.
