I know there are mixed opinions about whether one needs a case. Some think it is unhandy, especially when needing to reload quickly. However, for my shooting this is less of an issue. I just want to protect the camera when in my rather soft TUMI briefcase (it's made of ballistic nylon).
I was considering an original ZI case but find it a bit on the big side as it seems to be designed for a Planar 50mm with the original hood. With my Hexanon 50mm and its built in hood the ZI case is oversized. So now I'm considering an M3 case. They can be had from about $60 depending on condition. But can anyone tell me whether they will fit my camera/lens combination? How about the screw in the bottom, will it thread into the ZI tripod mount? Aren't there two different sizes for Leica M3 tripod mounts?
