first off, anything nice i say about lecia is in no way a knock or a comparison to my beloved canon p's...
that said, the m3 is one sweet camera.
it has a nice feel to it, a gentle heft added to by the ginormous 50/1.2 and mgrip of course.
i quite like the double stroke, it's not really slow yet it adds a moment of reflection about what i just shot or am about to shoot.
while it is not a silent camera it IS very quiet which i think might add a touch of confidence while shooting in very quiet circumstances.
i doubt it will impact my street shooting.
ok, this is my initial impression after a 15 minute shooting session at lunch.

Mental Experimental.
So after using both a single stroke and a double stroke camera, would you recommend the double stroke? Just curious.

i don't know that one is 'better' than the other but i doubt the double stroke will not slow me down.

The M3 viewfinder is simply the best out there. Of course I haven't handled an Ikon yet ;-)
Congrats Joe on getting a great camera.

My M5s need red dots!
The M3 is a joy to use... and Joe already discovered it!

Y'know, SS can DS as well. I advance that way with my MP and SS M3 all the time. The SS is too long an action to be comfortable for me. So I DS. Works like a charm.

Nice one Joe, I'm very pleased your getting aquainted with the new arrival.
Having not tried an M3 and at serious risk of sounding like one of our more prolific posting members, I have to ask:
"Is the M3 viewfinder 'that' much better than an M7/MP .72 with 1.25x ?
"
or even:
"Is the M3 viewfinder 'that' much better than an M7 like R3a ?
"

Cool.. I'll soon be "just like joe" as I await delivery of my 50mm 1.2 from Ryan in Ohio... and seeing as how I also have a double stroke M3 . . .
Joe.. hurry up and develop some photos with that 1.2
Cheers

Thanks MacCaulay. Looks like I gotta try an M3 and see the difference for real.

Ya know, I handled an M3 once and chagrined to find that I couldn't see the all the 50mm framelines with my glasses on.
Other than that, it was a VERY sweet viewfinder!

We need a countermeasures tactic.

i honestly do not think the m finder is any brighter than the p.
but it is easier to focus, i have to admit.
it has a defined and clear border while the p has a smaller, round and much less defined edge to it.
that being said, i never had a problem focussing the p at all.
