M3 Repair in the UK?

Hi, I need some advice! I'm thinking of investing in a good condition Leica M3 - late single wind - but keep reading about the 'balsam separation' of the range finder. I've already sent one M3 body back as I saw signs of this starting! If someone can recommend a repairer in the UK who undertakes this process I would really appreciate it. Then I can invest in peace!

The only company I could find on the web were based in Luton but I can't get any reply (fax or email) so I assume he's no longer in business.

Check the site more clearly, he states about frequent email problems.

Very recently people here have dealt with him, and I got a reply via email last month about some work I needed done (I ended up selling the camera and buying an M2 instead... now I'm waiting for the money to replenish so I can get it overhauled there 😀 )

Try Malcolm Taylor in Hereford; he is a well-known UK based Leica repair specialist. I've met him in person; he did a RF adjustment on my M6 and can handle almost any job. His no is: 01568 770542. His prices are reassuringly expensive 🙂

Peter at CRR is performing miracles on my CL as we speak. I would echo what others have said about e-mail though - he just doesn't seem to have the time to get round to them all. Very helpful and fair and very easy to get hold of by direct phone call. (His fax machine is iffy at best and often goes through to the phone rather than fax machine).

Hi, thanks, it's great to know you're still out there and going strong (and a lifeline to all those M series owners. Found your website and detailed pics re the balsam separation VERY helpful - I think you've already saved me £400 as I sent an M3 body back!

Saw this on the M3 body I was sent (although, admittedly it wasn't half as bad) so I returned it. (Naturally I couldn't find anything on this problem in the Leica books I have!) I would recommend viewing the camera in person or ensuring the retailer has a no questions return policy before you part with your cash!
