m3 view for glasses wearers?

Quite exactly the same (at least for me). I had the M4-P and M3 for some time in parallel, the 50mm frame-lines of the M3 are as difficult to see as the 35mm of the M4-P when wearing glasses.

I have sold the M3 since then and now use a 1.25x Leica magnifier with the M4-P and M7 (both 0.72x) for precise focusing only (dim light).

I can see just beyond the 50 frame lines on the M3 with my specs, this looking straight on without peeking around—very nice, indeed!

I wear glasses, and I feel the M3 is a bit of a strech for 50.
Not impossible but I feel more comfortable with the M2+50.

The eye-relief of the Single Stroke M3 is better than the Double-Stroke M3.

Probably so: I suspect the larger diameter eyepiece came in with the DOF marks being added. My 1957 DS has a slightly smaller diameter eyepiece than my 1960 Single Stroke. The eye-relief is good enough for my thick glasses on both, but the later camera offers even more. A good thing- it has been modified for 0.7m close-focus.

DOF marks?

DOF marks?

I've heard of these DOF marks before, but never quite understood what I'm looking for. I have a 1958 SS M3, but I can't make anything out that would be used for estimating DOF.

I can just barely see all four side of the 50mm brighlines with my thick eyeglasses. It's fine for me.

thanks guys!

less eye relief on the M3 DS? uh-oh... I just found a M3, double stroke of course, that I *might* even be able to afford... ah, maybe not, 'speeds off' is not broken enough, perhaps!

doesn't the eyepiece something unscrew though?

cheers!

Speaking of eyeglasses and the M3

Speaking of eyeglasses and the M3

One thing I didn't care for on my M3 was the metal ring on the viewfinder. I was trying to look for different things to apply to the outside of the ring so as not to scratch my eyeglasses. I had heard that some of those colored rubber rings for key idenetifiers would fit. They do, but rather loosely. I was about to try some liquid rubber, when I sudduenely realised that Leica actually makes a piece just for this. Dond Goldberg (DAG) has them for $15, and they snap on nice an tight. Now my M3 is just as eyeglass friendly as my MP!

I have no trouble at all seeing the entire frame with my M3 DS. Wearing glasses in no way impacts my ability to enjoy the view. I also have M6TTLs 0.72 & 0.85 and I still prefer the M3 viewfinder.

Same here... for 50mm haven't seen anything that beats an M3. With a .72 finder its easy to see why some people think that a 50mm is like a short tele. I don't wear glasses though...

I have thick glasses, so I have to scan around a bit to see the framelines. But the VF on my M3 DS beats the .72 VF on my M6 anyday when using a 50mm lens.

I put the diopter I already had onto my M3 (nice that a 2007 accessory screws perfectly into a 1960 body) so that I can shoot without glasses and get my eye close to enjoy the VF. Plus I don't scratch the lenses.

I have quite bad eyesight, and I found that with m3 and m2 I couldn't see the whole frame without peering towards the corners.

As I like to shoot with a 50mm, I reckon for me the m2 is better for visualisation. I currently have a washer attached to the viewfinder ring, I'm wondering if I attached something thinner, that would assist with the view.
