I thought some people may be interested to know this stuff...

- Panasonic is supposedly releasing a 12-50mm f2.8-3.3 fast zoom (24-100mm equiv) very soon.

- Panasonic will supposedly be releasing a rangefinder style m4/3 camera with in built EVF, in the same sort of style as the old digilux in the next few months.

- A Panasonic 25mm f1.4 is also coming pretty soon - within the next few months, if not sooner.

- Olympus supposably is releasing the e-p3 AND a their pro m4/3 model in the next few months, maybe sooner.

- Olympus is also releasing 3 pro lenses for m4/3 in april/may.

Source is 43rumors.com - they're almost always right with their predictions and rumors. It's an exciting time for m4/3 owners and fans - this year we're going to get a massive boost in available lenses, and some real specialty lenses like the 25mm f1.4 to strengthen the system.

It's about time...other systems have really been catching up, particularly Sony. I am hoping Oly and Pana announce their new pro bodies before the X100 comes out, otherwise my camera money for 2011 may already be gone.

I want a full frame RF-type digital camera with interchangeable lenses or a compact zoom lens. wake me up when someone decided to make one.

Edit: At $1500

They have to present something nice soon!
The 12-50mm is supposed to be relatively large. Don't like that. I'd like to have a 14-42mm 2,8 instead, that would have been smaller. And I want a built-in EVF!

I actually agree with you here, not so much about Sony catching up (last time I checked they only had 2 lenses) but my first camera purchase in 2011 is going to be that x100 hopefully...

The panny lumix 14/2.5 is fantastic. Very sharp, fast and quiet focus (almost silent) and very compact (makes the 20/1.7 seem large). They make a great two lens combo.

Oh man, I was planning on shooting a lot of film this year, but this is really exciting.

I thought the E-P3 was going to be their pro m4/3rds model?

The 25/1.4 will have to be a great performer to make it a much more attractive option than the 20/1.7, as I imagine it will be a fairly large lens.

I'm interested to see if Oly comes out with any primes in the spring. I believe they had a 12mm lens in their road map. Would be amazing if it were f2 or faster.

One thing is sure though... While we have expected other m4/3 lenses to be cheap, that 12-50mm f2.8-3.3 is sure going to be expensive!:p

Another thing, I don't expect the E-P3 to have a built-in EVF. If you've seen the XZ-1, it also has the same accessory port and takes the VF-2 which I think is kind of surprising...

I think Olympus made that accessory port and thus the VF-2 part of their basic camera architecture right from the start...

How Is Sony Catching Up?

How Is Sony Catching Up?

I'm wondering how Sony, with only 2 NEX bodies and 3 NEX lenses to market so far, can be seen as catching up to m4/3, which has 10+ bodies and 12+ lenses. Did I miss a whole bunch of product introductions?

Or are you talking about units sold and market share? NEX is selling well, especially in Japan, even with only 2 bodies and 3 lenses. There's more to it than product line expansion.

It's about time...other systems have really been catching up, particularly Sony.

I'm interested in the Olympus m4/3 pro model.

My guess is that it will just be a nicer version of the E-P3.

You're in luck!!

Click here for full frame RF type camera with interchangeable lenses!!!

Edit: May not satisfy added $1500 prerequisite... Seriously though, considering the cheapest full frame SLR is still 3000 or so, I really doubt it's going to happen for a long time.

. . . . . that link was priceless!

I would love to see a GF3 (could be larger than the GF1, just keep the same shape) with an interanl viewfinder and the feature/functionality of the GH2. It may not be a rangefinder but it would a nice interim step. The GF2 did nothing for me . . . . .

Life is Grand!

I'd like to see an internal EVF in the EP-3 since I've lost the one from my EP-2 and can't afford to buy another! Or if it is still an add on EVF please Olympus make it one that can be securely clicked/fixed in place. This is the kind of detail that may make me switch from the EP-2 to another marque, such is the competition these days.

Ian.
