Hi,

Anyone knows the approximate M4-P breakpoint number between adjustment screw🙂 and eccentric screw:bang:?

Thanks,

Let me refrace the question ... Does your Leica M4-P have a vertical alignment adjustment screw or eccentric😉? Can you please post at least the first five digits of your serial number🙂?

Thanks in advance,
RLouzan

RL,

AFAIK the vertical alignment mechanics were changed in the middle of M4-2 production. All M4-Ps should have the same alignment mechanics (similar to M6), requiring a special tool; available from Zhou, BTW.

Roland.

Hi Roland,

According to Leica FAQ the vertical alignment mechanics were changed in the middle of M4-P production.

Nemeng is a bit confusing. If you read further down, it says M42 and up. I'll check mine tonight, if you like.

15640xxx - eccentric, though has brass top and bevelled windows. surprising that they changed to eccentric before the M6 type zinc tops where used as well.

my M4-P needs a vertical alignment badly, sending her off for a CLA next week, was hoping I had a screw type and could adjust myself. oh well

Thank you for all your help,

So Roland was indeed right! This raises a new question: the access hole in the front of the M4-2/P is much smaller than that on the M6. This suggests that the top plate must be removed for adjustment.

Hi Roland,

Could you measure your Zhou tool with a caliper? I'm making my own vertical alignment tool ... and according to the following data, it won't fit though the M4P screw hole.

Thanks,
Robert

Leica M6 vertical Alignment tool (Adj. RF M4P, M6" #1500-0000-1279 )
"The diameters of 'pin' measures 1.50 mm and the cam measures 2.50 mm. The outer edge of the pin overhangs from the cam by 0.16 mm. The height of the 'pin' and cam are both 1.04 mm."

Hi Robert,

it's exactly 0.1 inches (accuracy of my caliper is .01 inches).

I tried, it's a tight fit but it works.
