I hope I'm not asking too much of this camera.

It jammed on the first day I had it, which seemed to be sort of a fluke. I went to sleep feeling depressed as hell, but much to my surprise, it un-jammed the next morning. I simply picked it up and the wind had magically become unstuck overnight. Phew.

A couple months later and now I'm in the middle of a documentary project. This morning I was cleaning all my lenses and loading my film holders and getting all my accessories into the camera bags when I was struck with the desire to take a picture of a sunbeam laying across my coat. So I did, 1/60th of a second, the shutter completed its travel and I wound and it jammed again.

Again! That's twice now! Doesn't wind, I can see the edge of the shutter curtain if I take off the base plate and lift up the back, the shutter button doesn't help, and neither does fussing with the winder or gently tapping on any of the surfaces...

This time, however, I didn't panic. I've got an R2A that works fine, and the real heavy lifting on this project is sadly not being done by rangefinders, but by a crown graphic and mamiya combo. But thinking back to the last jam, I packed the Leica anyway figuring that I'd pull it out later to see if it wanted to play nicely. And lo, hours later, the winder had a little bit of give and I was able to finish winding it on. And subsequent test shots exhibited nothing unusual, the shutter sounds great.

Any light to be shed on this behavior?

Guessing

I'm guessing that the shutter isn't fully releasing, and overnight, the shutter travels just a little bit far enough to clear the jam.

It needs a CLA.

It certainly should not be considered as "normal" behaviour.

Good luck with it.
