My M5s need red dots!
I yielded to the temptation... Couldn't do a thing. The price was so right... and now it'll be coming some time next week.
It's a Leica M4-2. I'm somewhat happy... 'cuz even though I don't need it, I wanted it.
Time to process all those rolls.
Heck, it feels good to do away with all those items in my watchlist! One less obsession to cope with!
Don't you love that feeling?
I'm sure joe knows it well.

I like your attitude ! Enjoy the M4. I have all the other Ms, but no M4. Maybe I should try to do something with my obsessions !

Have fun with it, and many great pics to take.
I have a M4 Wetzlar (yes, 4, not 4P or 4-2) in chrome (bought from a RFF member early this year). Great stuff.
Hope to cure my lust for a 35-Cron in near future. Or to put the Jupiter-12 to its limits.

Right now I feel so virtuous...
No more longings for a 90mm Elmar or a big Nikon zoom.
Can it be that I'm close to <gasp> being "done"?
Is that something that really happens to people?
Probably... Now, I want that camera here soon and pronto. It's been a very long wait.

I also just picked up an M4-2 and it's actually on it's way here. I've been using the R2A and i'm hoping to adjust to the M4 not having a meter. I hope I can "wing-it" without using a meter and just get used to working this way at least during nice sunny days. Which M4-2 did you get? Was it sold here?

Hi, Ken! Welcome to the forum.
I bought one on the *bay. The seller was asking for $950 or Best Offer for a M4-2 and Tele Elmarit 90mm combo. I submitted an offer, he made a counteroffer, then I replied to his counteroffer, he sent another and that I couldn't say no to ($840 for camera and lens). Why bicker over money?
A few hours ago he told me he's shipping the camera on Monday. Darn!
I guess I should take it like he took my offers...
In any case, it seems to be in good shape.
About shooting without a meter... after using my Leica MR a lot, I figured out one little rule: memorize your settings and light conditions. Since I like shooting B&W film with the lens wide open, on days with bright sunlight I know better to set the exposure at f8, 1/1000. Late afternoon light (or golden light): bracket between f4 and f5.6 (same shutterspeed). Indoors, f2.8 at 1/125th, or open a bit if it's darker than expected.
Experiment with one aperture, so that you don't have to ransack your brains thinking of EV involving aperture and shutterspeed. At least, that's what I've done, and it has allowed me to enjoy my M3.
Hopefully, we'll be able to compare notes soon!

Good for you, Francisco! Banished that temptation in the most satisfying way.
I hope it helps you make ever better pics. I wouldn't mind having an M4 as well, but the M2 will just have to do for now.

I was watching this one and got called away when the end of the auction was nearing....
Next time I will have better luck

Well, Rogier, the auction was supposed to end in a couple of days. I just kicked up the process... Sorry about it.
However, if you're still interested on the lens we can talk.

Hey, Doug, as you already know, with every camera we get just one step closer to HCB quality stuff!
Thanks for the good wishes.
BTW, when does one ever get "done"?

congrats my friend!!
i had an m4-p once but was too dumb to hold on to it. i had such a hard time shooting without a meter built in but that was before i learned how simple it really is.
i hope you like it and i'm pretty sure you will.

"Done"? What a concept... Maybe when the money runs out.

Congratulations on the M4-2!
I think the M4-2 is one of the under-appreciated Leicas. I own two (although I plan to let one go soon), and I find it a very nice camera to use.
The viewfinder is as good as the M4, with none of the flare issues of the later camera. It feels a lot lighter than the earlier cameras, the baseplate still has the 'key' to open the Leica film cassettes (although I got one for my M6TTL too)...
I guess I could go on, but you get the idea. I think it's really nice.

Congratulations Francisco. Done is not a bad thing, as long at you are willing to feed that itch some time in the future when it kicks up again. Done until then. That is my motto.

Thanks, folks! It's nice to know that there are people in the world for whom having more than one camera is not a weird trait. Like someone i know, who has said to me "Why do you need so many cameras? I just have one."
BTW, this one is going to rescue my Hexanon from its existencial morass.

Francisco, congrats, the "working man" M4-variants are incredible values.
I got an Elmar-M with my M4-P but I like 35mm lenses better.
Once I got one, it's like getting a new camera, when I first saw the 35mm frame line on the M4-P... woah!
So, the moral of the story is, if you like 35mm lenses, you got the perfect M-body for the money

I'm experiencing weird feelings of greed... I may keep the lens the camera will come with.
If not, you guys will hear about it.
Can't wait. Looks like it's going to be a looooong week.
