Contrary to the prevailing wisdom recementing a failed prism is quite straitforward providing that you do not damage the coating before re-glueing with a uv curing optical resin. The failed organic resin is easily cleaned with pure IPA and care with alignment will ensure success. Rectangular masks are easily modified with a few file strokes and a dab of black paint. Not for the faint hearted though!

Can we recommend some other beers for cleaning purposes? After all, "Guinness is good for you".

Thank you for posting the photos of the two examples of finder masks.

I never noticed it before this thread but my black chrome Wetzler M4, ser. #1384XXX, has the barrel shaped mask and a perfect VF. If anybody is collecting a data base on this subject.
