I would like to adapt M42 lenses to M39 rangefinder bodies. Can this be done with an adapter? I am interested in adapting the Soviet M42 fisheye lenses in particular to my screwmount bodies for a project where I'd not be able to bring but 2 small camera bodies and some lenses. Yes, I know it sounds weird, but rangefinder coupling would hardly matter and I'd be the only kid on the block with a fisheye lens on a rangefinder body. I have a habit of doing things just because they can be done. So, can it be done without having to alter the lens and would it offer the right registration distance, or would it throw the focus scale off like adapting M42 to Nikon F, etc.?
P.S. I was inspired by this eBay listing, apparently someone has already thought of this, but I think the Zenitar 16mm f2.8 is designed to be able to be fitted with any modern lens mount after construction, but that it is permanent.
