I guess I just don't get it. Why would something like this be desirable? You wouldn't drive a car with the paint worn like this and think it attractive or live in a house with the paint peeling this bad and think it beautiful. Just looks like a badly worn paint finish to me. Which is what it is.

Whenever I close my eyes and think about a Leica camera I see it in silver chrome ! They are the most beautiful from all. And I don't believe in black stealthiness.
 
seriously? both!

I have one in Titanium. I was actually looking for black but there wasnt any around that time in a good shape for that price.. i'm kinda liking it now though.. but i need a black to feel complete!

I don't get it... Why would someone talk about a common house or a common car when they're in front of the most beautiful and desirable camera? I guess we're all different! The only reason I have for not owning an M2 yet, is I want it black, and I just can't pay that! 😀 And honesty, I know dreaming of it gives me a lot of constant pleasure!

Yes, the word is desirable... But with such intensity I wish someone had a much better word for this!

For people who bought a mint camera, and then they use it so much it looks like that picture it's like looking at your wife as you both have grown old together.

But for 99% of the people who simply buys a camera that looks like this and hardly knows how to insert the film into it, it gives them a FALSE SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT, as if they have been trekking around the Himalayas with a wandering monk, but in reality just sitting at home doing a 9-5 lifestyle.
 
I actually like black chrome. I like the way it dulls and doesn't wear through like black paint does. If I was going to get an a'la carte MP I'd have it in black chrome or normal chrome.

I think it looks awesome.
 
Visually, I'm in love with Chrome. It looks the most gorgeous, especially paired with a silver lens. Likewise with my limited edition silver Zeiss Ikon and silver zeiss lens.

Shooting-wise, I feel most distraction-free with my black MP and black lens.

I honestly talked myself into a chrome MP after browsing the massive "I love my MP" thread over at the Leica forum. I have three silver zeiss lenses (28, 35 and 50). I figured that I'd need to avoid getting a black because it wouldn't pair/etc. I also felt the 'mint' black MP look almost felt digital (my black X100 is very similar for example).

Then I walked into a store and came across a bargain, brassed-at-the-edges black MP. After much deliberation I bought it. Next day I bought a black summicron 35mm. Now I feel complete.

It might be psychological, it might be that I'm more comfortable shooting, but I feel crowds moving around me while I'm shooting with black MP where they may have noticed and waited for me before (very common occurence with ZI and chrome M6).

Both take great pictures. One is more noticeable than the other. It really comes down to your use case and desire.
 
I know this question has been long answered, and we're well into posterity territory, but black for me. Black M6 slung across the chest, I found it would simply meld against a dark jumper, and feel so inconspicuous, just there to be called upon when needed, and then left disappear back against my body. Perhaps its partly psychological, but I miss my black M6 for that reason, and would love to pair one up with my chrome M3 one day.
 
I have a black M6 Leitz and my former M6 Leitz was also black, i always wanted a chrome one, but the black ones have been a lot cheaper. On my previous M6 that was from the period the Leitz Wetzlar was closed the paint was better than the rather thinner that seems to be on my 1986-87 M6, it has allready started to wear out. Maybe i'll get it hammertoned at some point =DD ?
When i think about it, a brass M6 would perhaps rather suit a sailor on a ships deck, dont you think?
 
- My IIc and IIf of many years past were worn silver chrome when I got them in 1969. They became more worn looking over the ensuing 17 years I had them. I always liked the way they looked

- The IIIf I inherited from my father was pristine perfect silver chrome when I got it. I was almost afraid to touch it for fear of putting a scratch on it. I sold it a couple of years later as I just couldn't bring myself to use it ... as a keepsake in memory of my father, it didn't resonate with me as there was a lot of negative emotions associated with it based on the stories he told of how and why he owned it.

- Although I've had a couple of chrome Ms over the years, I prefer black Ms. They look industrial and useful to my eye, which I consider more beautiful than the pretty flash of silver chrome. Black chrome holds its finish better than black lacquer, but black lacquer is a nicer finish ... doesn't make much difference to me.

- A black camera with brassed edges and corners through use is simply a sign of a well-used piece of equipment. I use a half-case nowadays to ensure a proper grip on the camera, rather than to protect the finish over-cautiously. Of course, a nicely designed leather case made of soft leather that fits the body snugly is also quite nice looking.

I prefer to spend more time looking through my cameras than looking at them... 🙂
 
My IIIc, M3, and M6 are all chrome. Chrome cameras have a clean and classic look that I really like. No brassing, even with heavy use. My MP will be chrome too.
