M6 classic led's stay on/battery drain.

An interesting post for me because my 1985 M6 recently is also killing batteries. I also am attached to the Wetzlar features/differances.

My M6 came from an E-bay dealer with a dead frame counter and I've been living with that mafunction for almost a year and a half.

Already have one camera out for an overhaul (Rollieflex-Harry Fleenor), and now need funds for a M6 overhaul. Also want to upgrade the finder (MP) and calibrate my 75 Lux to my M6 all at the same time.

calzone, i had the MP finder upgrade done on a wetzlar M6 and found the modification well worth the money. TLC for a wetzlar M6 makes a lot of sense to me. i so regret selling mine ...

Mike,

My Wetzlar M6 is special: not only is it my first Leica; it is an odd Leica because it has a Titanium top plate with the all the Wetzlar engravings that makes it a likely Leica prototype for all the Ti M6's that came 5 years later. Only the top plate is Ti, otherwise it would be just another chrome Wetzlar M6. I bought it at the height of the credit crisis, when prices dropped and people were selling their treasures.

Out of all my cameras, this camera has taken me further and in shorter time, as far as making me a better, more critical photographer. I use to be a Nikon Pro manual camera nerd who shot only fast primes, but this camera raises the bar.

Somehow, because this M6 needs repair, I feel in pain. The good thing is that I know everything will eventually be like new, and a lot cheaper than even buying a used MP. I expect the Rolleiflex 3.5F "Whiteface" to be back around mid April, in the meantime sending out the M6 will have to wait.

Alec,

Just a couple of observations from your post above:

It seems that your camera came back from the CLA with the problem with the meter lights staying on? Is this correct? If so, did the technician who carried out the CLA not inform you of this problem prior to sending it back to you? I guess this must be the case as otherwise you would not have posted to ask if you were doing anything wrong.

430 Euros seems very high to have this work done - it almost seems like the technician doesn't want the camera back and is trying to put you off.

Ultimately it's your call and you should do what you think best, but if it were me I would get a second or third opinion.

Whatever you decide, have fun with the camera.

That's just what I would do as well. As an aside, I've had the pleasure of a (very) short ownership of an MP. While the MP is doubtless a lovely camera, the Wetzlar M6 with upgrade was all-but-equal in hand. Just my opinion, mentioned only as encouragement for a CLA and upgrade of your M6.
