I was using the VC 21mm f/4 on my M6 TTL the other day and noticed that the rangefinder did not work below a certain point -- the lens kept turning toward closer focus (I don't have it by me but that lens might go to .5m? Certainly no more than .7m anyway...) but the image in the RF square did not change.

Is this standard? The M6 can't couple any closer than whatever that point might have been? Or is there something wrong?

My recollection is -- I'll have to test it -- that the RF for the CL, which is what I usually mount the 21mm f/4 lens on, does work all the way in to closest focus point.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Yep - the lens can focus closer than the camera can. The lens simply uncouples from the rangefinder arm at that point.

Leica M bodies focus to 0.7m. The VC 15mm mk1 goes to 0.3m if I remember, great for mirrorless digitals but all the Ms stop at 0.7m

And the 21/4 stops at 0.5m. Of course there's nothing to stop the user from estimating the distance and scale focusing. With the wide lenses there's plenty of DOF depth (pardon the tautology).

The first (LTM) version of CV 15mm has no rangefinder coupling. The new M mount version is coupled.

Ah yes, it focuses closer than the Mk2 on a mirrorless, but is uncoupled. I've had both but forgot that. Cheers :)
