M6 does a wedding (as a guest)

I was a guest at a dear friend's wedding. Didnt want to bring my 5D and assorted lenses, so I opted for the M6 + 35 ZM. I didnt want to be 'that guy' so I shot most stuff from my seat or nearby.

I shot a total of 2 rolls (one Trix 400 pushed 1 stop, one Neopan 1600 pushed one stop).

I like the first one in your series very much. It has "classic" look. Thanks for sharing !
 
Last year I went to a friends wedding as a guest and took along my black M6 with 35 Summilux in a small soft Benser bag. Sitting in the sanctuary I got the feeling that photography was not allowed but being quiet and discreet I took two shots that came out beautifully. The first meeting of bride and groom and first kiss. They turned out to be the only photo's taken during the service and the bride, the pastors daughter, was delighted. Thank You Leica for such a quiet, discreet and superb camera. Joe

Sure, why not. I've shot at least a dozen wedding with only a Leica. Here's the last one. I took a shot of the official wedding photographer, and I must admit we had a ball. He's one of the few guys that likes to shoot only candids and says to hell with all the formality and anal retentive crap. He covered all the flash stuff and I shot the day light.

Nice work. When I got married, our photographer( a photojournalist) shot mostly with her Canon digital but also shot some b/w film with her Leica M6 and M7 because we requested it.
 
Nice shots.

You pushed Neopan 1600 to 3200? Doesn't that give you too much contrast? :confused:

As a professional wedding photographer who shoots with a pair of Nikon D2x's on my shoulders, I say these shots are gorgeous. After a typical evening of firing off 2,200 digital shots I often long for the simpler days of my M7 loaded with Tri-X and making my way with care through 36 frames in a more selective manner.
 
I did the same thing myself a couple of weeks ago. Just an M6 with 35 and 90mm lenses and a mix of b&w films. When you see 'that guy' jumping up and down during the ceremony and rifling off shots with his massive DSLR, a Leica's definitely much more subtle.



 
Those are some beautiful tones in those images.
I tend to have some serious mood swings between liking high contrast and liking nice sexy midtones....seeing these has just started my mood swinging back towards midtones.

thank you guys! the hired pros did some VERY nice work...but used a flash in almost every shot. i wanted to try to capture ambiance.

yes, the neopan did get pretty crazy when pushed. but it was SOOO dark at the reception. i am a complete film newb, so lesson learned!
 
I don't do weddings often but I have one coming up. I went to the couple's house to discuss the particulars and during the conversation the groom-to-be pointed to my bag and asked to see my camera. All I had on me was my Bessa so I showed it to them and mentioned it was a film camera. A look of shock came across the bride's face and she asked "you're using digital for the wedding, RIGHT?"

As I assured her that I was using digital I couldn't help but think to myself how much better it'd probably look on B&W film.
 
Inconspicuous is NICE.

Unfortunately, the thing that my friends and family remember most about my wedding was the photographer. The girlfriend of one of my groomsmen, she decided she needed to look like a hottie for the reception later on. Amply endowed, she kept, um, falling out of her itty bitty dress :eek:.

She should have known better, she was (allegedly) a pro.

IMHO, clients should never dictate your choice of gear, after all they are commissioning you for your ability/style to document their wedding and not for your gear or medium of choice.
