M6 Frame lines

Hello

I just received M6 classic from another RFF member and found that when I attach 35mm, a part of 50mm frame is also visible, which the seller did not mention in his sales.. Is there any easy DIY fix for this? Or should I send it to CLA? It does not affect the camera's operation, but just annoying. When 50 or 28 lens is attached only appropriate lines are seen.

it is normal for them to come up in pairs.
50/75
28/90
135/35

are you sure it is the 35 that comes up w/the 50?
i may be wrong on which show with other, but they do show in pairs.

Sorry, that I wasn't clear enough.

When I attach 35mm lens, there should be two frames. And I do see those two frames clearly. In addition to that, two frames, that I see when I attach 50mm lens is still visible.

If I move the frame selector (without a lens attached), I see a pair of frames in each position, but when I move it to 35mm position, the lines for 50 and 75 do not disappear completely.

Did you move the frame selector while the body cap is attached? IF yes, then that's normal. If not, I have no answer for you.

No, without body cap. Plus, I have 35 Biogon right now, and I see top part of 50 line and left part of 75 line in addition to 35 and 135 lines.

I had the same issue on an M6 ttl when mounting a Tri-Elmar 28-35-50. The solution came with having the lens adjusted. I'd recommend having a repair person look at the camera along with the lens you're using to insure everything in the bayonet mount and viewfinder linkages are adjusted correctly.

I've had the same problem with both an M6 and an M4 (but not the same lens). Sometimes just twisting the lens with a little force will correct the problem. Must be a very close tolerance and I believe the problem is more with the lens that the body. So a lens that has the same problem with the M6 doesn't do it with the M4 and visa versa.

Try twisting the lens on the mount and see if that helps. Because one of the flanges on the mount engages a lever that selects the framelines, so it could be pushing it too much or not enough.

I'll agree with giving the lens a 'fuller' turn when mounting. Otherwise have them looked at together.

I have this happen with my M5 and the 35/2 lens- but making sure the lens is mounted all the way clears it up.

However, both of my 35mm lenses do the same and show a part of 50/75 lines. I am trying to turn hard, but no change. Those two lenses work fine with my M7, which has 0.58 finder...

Well, it does not affect the operation of the body and image quality, just annoying, but I will probably get used to it.

If i am reading this correctly, the 50/75 frames and the 35/135 frames are all present together? And this can be made to happen by moving the frameline selector with no lens attached? I can make that happen with my MP, M6 classic, and M6 TTL. So, it is normal. But to make it happen, the frameline selector has to be in an in-between position--which it shouldn't be with a lens fitted.

I don't believe you mentioned if you have another M camera to try the 35mm lens on. If you have access to another camera and another lens, you can try substituting another lens on your body, and your lens on another body, and see whether the problem follows the camera body, or stays with the lens. But in lieu of that, I'm going to assume the problem is with the M6 body. Come to think of it, it would not be possible for a 35mm lens to actuate the 50mm framelines, because the bayonet lug is not long enough to do that. So it's really got to be the camera body, in need of an adjustment. I would get it done--you really don't want to shoot with 4 framelines showing!

the 35mm frame line (and 135) are the default position of the frame selector mechanism. That's what shows when nothing is pushing against the little gizmo behind the camera's lens mounting flange. Either that needs adjusting or possibly there's something stuck on it so the lens's bayonet flange is pushing it too far. Check if you can see anything there, perhaps just a gob of greasy lint or such? A teensy piece of paper? If it actually requires adjustment, unless you're friendly with somebody who knows how to do it and does it for free...LOL....learn to live with it until you have to bring it in to actually get a repair on something broken.

I second Al's idea of something greasy sitting either on the little wheel that gets touched by the lens or the flange. Try wiping body flange and lens flange with a dry paper towel and also the wheel mentioned before. Some little grease in the wrong spot can make all the difference....
