Hi everyone.

wondering if i can borrow some of your leica knowledge!

I own a 0.85 m6 TTL, and i'm really happy with it. But in the last two months, the left hand bottom side of it too a small knock (not enough to scratch/dent exterior). But recently, the little framelines changer for previewing on the front of the body has no effect.

It still moves from left to right, but doesn't change the framelines. I've no idea why, but wondering if any of you guys might know?

Also, i only use 35mm lenses atm but i'm looking at getting a 50mm for the summer. Will the frameline for 50mm come up ok? Even if the lever on the front doesn't work?

cheers in advance

Niall

There is a spring-tensioned pusher mechanism in the body that moves a frame mechanism at the prism. If the body got bumped, likely something has moved out of alignment enough to bind the mechanism. The tolerances are pretty tight for the entire thing.
A dismantle and CLA might free it all up.

What framelines show in the viewfinder when you take the lens off? I don't have an M6 so I can't check but I believe the 50/75 framelines should show with the lens off while the 35/135 should show with your 35 mounted. If the framelines change between lens-off/lens-on then its just a fault with the preview lever. If they don't change then its more serious and will probably need professional attention.

The frameline issue could be unrelated to the knock. If the framelines aren't responding to the lever, it's most often just a little lubricant on the frameline mechanism, which can cause it to stick. The parts are supposed to be completely dry, according to Don Goldberg.

If the lever doesn't change the framelines, mounting a different length lens probably won't, either. You probably need at least a minor CLA.
