M6 Lens Hood - Which one to buy?

I just acquired an M6 recently with a 35 Pre-Aspherical Summicron lens. There was no lens cap or hood for the lens. I bought a generic 39mm lens cap from KEH, but I didn't buy the Leica hood for the lens as they wanted $79 for a bargain one [Leica] and $99 for an excellent one [again, a Leica hood]. I saw some on Ebay that were priced much, much less than the Leica hood at KEH.

I'm wondering if buying the cheaper ones I've seen on Ebay would work just as well as the pricier Leica hoods at KEH.

heavy2star sells very good lenshoods at ebay. I paid about €17,- for mine, E39 for Summicron 50mm.

You need some type of clamp on hood. I've never seen these from heavystar or 3rd parties, though they probably exist.

The hood for your pre-asph 35 is probably the 12504 round one with 4 clamps that uses series VII filters.

Alternatively, the latest asph cron rectangular 35 hood fits so I'd keep an eye out for one of these 12526 (and older 12524).

The round one isn't that effective, but allows use of filters (49mm ones work as well as Series VII) easier than the rectangular one.

I ended up getting a new 12526 rect. one which is expensive, but is used 95% of the time, and really is more effective than the older round ones.

I have 2 12504s, one with a UV/IR filter (for M8 sometimes), and one with a IR R72 filter.

The 12504s also fit the pre-asph summicron.

But the small round wide/angle 39mm screw in hoods from heavystar are good.

Hi Roland, I just looked at mine (2,29x,xxx - the later versions without infinity lock) and I don't think it has threads, but if it does, they're way down by the glass, like the CV 21/4 and M 15/4.5 (52mm). I think a clamp on might be safer.

There is also the 12585 which is deeper and usually cheaper than the 12504.

I was getting 35 summiluxes and crons mixed up.

Yes, the 35 cron can readily use 39mm filters and hoods, but the lux needs the clamp on types (or I haven't tried a screw in one, if there are threads).

I just purchased a 35f2 Summicron with eyes and I purchased a hood for it that takes Series 7 filters. Haven't tried it out yet as I purchased it this morning. My question is are all Series 7 or VII designated as without threads to fit inside the hood?

I think so.

I usually use thin 49mm filters, though, they come in better quality and fit as well.
