Hi,

I recently bought a mint condition chrome M6 Classic to comliment my black M6 Classic. I am just a bit concerned because the rewind assembly (the circular knob with the flip-up crank) of the chrome M6 is much looser than on my black M6, and when I flip the crank up and start winding it clicks as if something misaligned--it feels a bit like a coffee grinder. My black M6's assembly is a little loose too but is silky smookth when cranked. I realize these cameras are 20+ years old and have seen some use but is this something to worry about? I haven't run any film through it yet but the seller assures me the camera works 100%. Is this fixable?

Thanks in advance.

The clicking doesn't sound good, but I bet you could continue to use the camera as is without any big problems.

If you're having a CLA at some point, you could have it sorted out then.

Unless the clicking sound was very loud, if it were me, i would just live with it until an eventual CLA.

It's possible that the crank arm is slightly bent. The click could be the lever hitting the camera body on each turn - you can try winding it very slowly and observe whether the click occurs as the lever passes the body. On a black M6 the paint will come off where it touches - don't ask me how I know😱
Whatever it is, I'm sure it can be fixed by one of the repair folks you read about regularly on the forum...

The M6 rewind knob....is that camera`s weakest link! 🙁

DAG can put it back in order again and he also sells those full brass SL-2 style rewind knobs for replacement, way better than factory original knob.

You're right. It is a simple mechainism, I mean the rod that connects down from the crank to the film turner, and should be simple fix. I can get it done when I have it CLA'd or just have it repaired. Thanks a lot for your comments and adivce.
