Hello all.

It's a long time since I've done more than lurk on RFF, having discovered fora were generally having a bad effect on my productivity :) Hope you don't mind me sticking my head in with a quick query.

I brought my M6 non-TTL out for a bit of exercise (having been shooting M2 and digital for ages), and the meter appears dodgy.

At any combination of aperture, shutter speed and ISO setting, all the meter does is flash the underexposure arrow. When the meter switches on or off, there is a very quick flicker of the over arrow, but that's it - underexposure flashing all the way. I've tried two different sets of batteries with no effect.

Ever heard of this?

Unless I'm doing something dumb (yes, the lens cap is off!), I guess it's time to give Malcolm Taylor a call...

Cheers,
Mark..

Try replacing the battery first. Usually, that's the solution to meter problems in a Leica. Also, check that the battery contacts are clean. If all the above measures fail... then it's beyond your control and the camera will have to go to the repair shop.

Yes, I had an M6 with exactly the same fault. Had the circuit board replaced by Kindermann (Leica repair shop) in Canada.

Just off the phone with Malcolm Taylor (who was as gentlemanly and conversational as I remembered him to be).

Once expense is cleared with the boss (that is, the wife), my M6 will be taking a trip to his camera spa for some TLC. It's long-since due a CLA, anyway :)

Thanks, all.
