M6 or M7. but why?

Not the M6??😱

Lots of folks will start screaming if they hear disparaging words about the M6.

I've had a few battery problems with the M7, but they always come down to my not switching the thing off. The better I get at remembering that the longer the batteries last. M4-2 has always seemed appealing to me for some reason revolving around the way it looks. Shallow? Sure.

I don't say that the M6 is a bad camera. But in ten years I had three times problems with the shutter release of this camera. A year ago I sold the camera because I own a M 4; M4-P and a M3.

I find the M6 not a bad camera but finally the other M's gives me more a feeling of reliability!

I just bit the bullet and bought a M4-P after advice from a good friend of mine who shoots Leica for more than 30 years. He had considerable trouble with various M6 and M7's so some of his Colleagues (he teaches photography at the Academy of Art in Maastricht, NL). And told me that the M4-P was the very best choice.
He told me to practice with a light-meter to train my eye's in estimating exposure. And ditch the thing after a year ;-)

Next advice he gave me was to get the Leica 35mm f1,4... but to stop by the bank first.. :-(

IMHO, the M4-P is the M Leica best suited for photography (not for fondling) .... 6 frame-lines, no electronics, and can take a rapid-winder (or motor). 🙂

Hasn't the shutter of the M7 been redesigned somehow? I read it on that putt page. It makes sure there's even exposure on the entire frame. That's a pretty good reason for a new M since I've seen a few with this problem.

I shoot both M6 and M7. The 6 is quicker out of the bag for a grab shot. There have been times when I've been frustrated by the 7's startup time. Turned on and in hand, the 7 is a wonderful camera, although I have had intermittent false film speed settings show up in the viewfinder [they don't seem to affect the exposure, though].
