Hi all
I have an M6TTL 0.58 which I like very much because I wear glasses and like to shoot wides.
Two things I dislike about this camera are:
- The flare of the RF patch
- The feeling of my M2 is much smoother, and my new M3 beats both by a long distance.
Now, Upgrading to an MP 0.58 will cost quite a bit.
So I wanted to know if you people are using both cameras (M6 and MP) and can share your impressions, more specifically on the two aformentioned issues.
Thanks!

I went from M6 to MP because of the finder, and for me it was worthwhile. Neither the M6 nor the MP were anywhere near as smooth as my M4.

I can't speak to the smoothness of operation of an MP as compared to that of an M6. But I can speak to the VF flare issue. The flare in the RF patch can be very effectively eliminated by the M6 VF upgrade (roughly $185).

Seconded. Cocking the shutter on my M2 certainly does feel nice and smooth, but in the grand scheme of photography that really doesn't count for much. If the VF is the only issue you have with your M6, the VF upgrade may be a better alternative than an MP. (That said, the MP is a very nice looking camera.)

A finder upgrade and a CLA will cost you much less than a change of camera. Plus you won't have to readapt yourself to the shutter speed dial rotating the other way on the MP.

Well, about the cost, no doubt.
About adaptation, I would say that it's the other way around as I already shoot older M's

Unless you're hot-to-trot to buy another camera, just get the finder upgraded.
There is an MP .58 here (just in case):

No, I mean "the other way". But I agree that changing this on the M6TTL/M7 was a very stupid move. Then again the larger dial is nice - much easier to operate than the smaller one on older M's.
BTW which way does the M8's shutter speed dial rotate? (Not that I care).

If you have extra cash, spend it on Leica lens. 10 years ago, a new M6 was about $1900, a summciron IV was only $680. The used M6 today is about 1000-1200, a used summicron IV is least 1100 or more. No doubt the MP is a beautiful camera, but I won't spend extra thousand just to get a better finder. If I have money, I will buy more lens.

BEG, BORROW OR STEAL....it really doesn't matter....get an MP and dump that M6...Hurry do it while you can!!!! I had one and hated it (except for the shutter dial). The MP finder is not just more flare resistant, it also much brighter...using the camera feels good!!! I like it...it kinda turns me on. Actually, the only GOOD thing about the M6TTL is the dial. It actually turns the right way (I wish the MP dial was the same). But many Leica users are themselves relics who can't adapt to small changes. So they don't ike it.

A big part of the Leica allure is the camera and it's reknowned smoothness. If that's what you want to experience.....then buy the MP. There is no substitute!!!

I don't like the TTL models- I find the taller body less attractive, and since I mostly use older M's, the shutter speed dial turning the other direction bothers me; but it (the M6 TTL/M7 dial) is easier to use. Otherwise- and most important, functionally- the cameras are basically identical...
Just get the finder upgrade and save your money.

The M8 dial turns the right way. Just like the M6TTL and M7.

I have owned the MP .58x and I can tell you that it rocks with the 25/28/35 focal lengths. Since I shoot no wider than a 35, though, the .58x finder was not as suitable for me as a .72x. If you love the finish and feel of shooting with a M2 or M3, and you can afford the MP, then go for it. I have owned the M6 as well, and it is a good tool; but it isn't a MP in terms of finish and feel. I hope you will get the body you enjoy using the most. Good cheer, Thomas

The M3 goes fft-zzzz softly........the M6 goes thwak-ssss.......the oldies win by a mile.
But a new chrome MP, black vulcanite, .85 VF, with raised eyebrows and the nice etching on the top plate, just like an M6J........ oh baby.
Someday.

There is a black mp .58 at my LCS for only $2500. A little brass showing on the advance lever, but that's about it. They just put it on the floor 3 days ago or so. Visit www.bluemooncamera.com.
No pics of the camera, but you could chat with them. I could evaluate it further for you. They show me their spendy stuff before they put it out for sale. My track record with them is that I usually buy it!

I just play with my cameras before I go to bed. Isn't that everyone does? Oh well..I guess I'll go to bed now.

Did you seriously mean that?
Do you actually take photos or do you just think about what camera would be best if you do ever eventually get round to taking them?

The flare of the RF patch can easily be fixed with the afforementioned upgrade.
If I could, I would get an M6 Millennium edition because of the hybrid M6TTL and MP fittings. The easy to use big dial, but the MP style lever and rewind.
The only smoothness you should be worrying about is how smooth that button depresses
