m6 question

i'm pretty new to rf and to leica, so please excuse the noob question...

if the batteries were to die on an m6, the camera could still be fully functional except for the built in meter?

i was told in m7 if the batteries die you only have 2 shutter speeds available, 1/60 and 1/125 but with an m6 full functionality would be retained?

is m6 essentially a manual camera with batteries only used for the built in meter or is it more 'electrical'?

That's correct. The classic M6 is a fully manual camera with a battery powered meter. So, as you stated, if the battery dies all you lose is the meter functionality.

You can't fire the flash if the batteries die on the M6 TTL.

It's my understanding that the shutter on the M6 is mechanical, like all Leica Ms before it, and the shutter on the M7 is electric except for 2 speeds which are mechanical. The cloth mechanical shutter on the M6 requires no battery for any of the available speeds (even some in between speeds) and the speeds are controlled by springs/gears whereas the M7s cloth shutter is electric and controlled by impulses from the battery. The result of the M7s new shutter is better speed accuracy and auto exposure. Of course, the downside is that you only have 2 mechanical speeds when the battery dies.

I'm fairly new to Leica, but that's how I understand it. Hopefully, someone will correct/augment my response if it needs it.
