why so serious?
this forum is a fount of useful ideas. i need to get a notebook and start making notesGet a chisel and a hefty hammer. Stick the tip of the chisel just under the red dot and give it a couple of solid, swift whacks with the hammer.
The red dot will come out and there will be an empty hole plus a little collateral damage. No-one will attempt to steal your camera and you can live without fear.

I have a chrome M6, and I wonder if I could get a regular dot and remove all the paint, having a metal only dot. Anyone ever tried that?
In my attempt to paint mine black, I have partially removed the red paint. I think all you need is to remove your dot and use some paint stripper on it. I'm not sure how it will look though, because the dot is aluminum.
Very kind of you Robert, as usual. I'm sending you a PM.Michael, I have some red dots, they cost less than $2 from Leica. How many do you want?

I'm actually looking for a bright yellow smiley face sticker to perfectly fit right over the lovely red logo. Stealth... who cares.

Sounds good
If you really want to go that way, you could install there a small turning disco ball mounted on a motor, and hit the streets shouting "saturday night fever"

Frankly, I'm a "no-dot" guy.
One of the things I like about the MP. I prefer anonymity when I shoot, and I don't need a bright red dot attracting the eye. Nor do I want anything that shouts "I've got a really expensive camera!" I'm not out to make a status display--prefer to have people think I have a humdrum point-and-shoot, and ignore me.
I agree with you Paul, I've had the same experience: the occasional pained face and innocent sympathetic remark questioning my financial status (once in Mumbai 'thiefs market', of all places), and why I couldn't afford a better camera to that 'old' thing I was using - it was a black MP. That is how I like it.
