How could any right mined M shooter put his beloved M on a tripod? Are any of us all there upstairs?. Anyway I do it all the time. You do not Know what you are missing ,beautiful micro detail and sharpness because of no focus error or vibration, why do we pay all these green backs for Leica glass only to dissipate the brillance with vibration.
Ok, I shoot a lot of architectural and product and landscape so I can get away with a tripod ,but because of my background with view cams I am use to slow contemplative shots. Slow down and Give your leica Glass a chance to really shine. By the way the tripod plate is from RRS #B30 fits all M's and allows you to center the lens on the pod.
Any others use tripods with there M's? Please go easy on me this is my first Post and I like you guys!!

I recieved and M-grip as a bonus item in an eBay auction several years ago. I almost never use the thing when shooting hand-held, but it's great to get a centered tripod socket when I want an M on legs.

I travel w/ a small Gitzo Basalt tripod. Its part parcel of my arsenal. I have a larger Bogen for my Mamiya C330f. On road trip only the small Gitzo goes - forget anything heavy.

Welcome to RFF! IMO no need for the request to go easy on you here 🙂 It's a friendly place! Thanks for sharing info about the tripod plate. I didn't know they existed. Is the level I see in your pics a part of the plate or something else added on?

Great shot Roland! Very cool...

There was similar device made in the UK circa 65-75 or so, it clamped the camera body in a 'vice grip' and had cut outs for the strap lugs.

When I get home I'll shoot a quick digi of my support system which is Gitzo 1228 + Markins tripod base + Linhof b/h with a similar Arca Swiss type QR system. Very stable. 🙂

I use a tripod for landscapes, a monopod for most other stuff.

So here are three very quick (& bad) digi's of my support system. I use a Clearsight USA camera plate (the shallowest one on the market) and a Markins clamp on the top of my Linhof Profi II b/h. I have a Gitzo 1228 (4 leg sections) mainly for travel convenience but I have replaced the center column with a Markins base plate. This support is very rigid and more than adequate for any rangefinder camera.

That Clearsite plate looks almost exactly like the RRS B30 plate that I have on the m6. Hmm... I wonder who copied who? Anyway it looks great.

If you use a tripod on your M series leica regularly, you've bought the wrong camera .... is at least what my "mentor" tells me.

I do tend to go along with this although I use a tripod quit often with my M

I was using a rangefinder before it was discovered that it should be used only for street photography and photojournalism. Therefore, using a tripod is a bad habit which I attribute to ignorance. It gets even worse. Sometimes I even profane a holy Leica by loading it with color film. :bang:

Wonderful shots Roland! 🙂 That is a nice kit you have there too with the Acratech b/h. So many people will spend on their lenses and then skimp on a support system that in many cases can negate their glass. It doesn't make sense. I bought my tripod and b/h used and got some grease and section sleeves from Gitzo for around $20 and gave the whole thing an overhaul and I had an essentially new tripod. Any members looking for a tripod should consider Gitzo because they are upgrading their lineup in the New Year, so there may be used ones on the market or reduced new ones at really good prices.

If possible I use a tripod. Thoughtful, lots of time, contemplative, etc. etc. The picture is generally finer (not necessarily better, however). But if I am going to use a tripod I generally use a larger format camera. I like the RF for situations where I tripod is impractical. That is more often than not.
