I've "Buy It Now"'d a 40mm f/1.4 Nokton off this man, when I noticed his M6... I was planning on spending £399 on a Bessa R2a, what do you reckon to this?

Is this a good price, is the scamdar picking anything up?

ARGH! The pain... £150 for the Nokton is the most I've spent on eBay for a single item (I don't trust eBay) now you've got me wondering whether I might get shafted for that too :bang:

It's a very fair price. I paid £699 for one in similar condition from a London dealer. One thing to note is that it is a Classic not a TTL. (your mistake in title not his). I would be cautious rather than suspicious. It's Paypal etc whick looks good but the account is low feedback and hasn't been used for a while. I would ask seller a question like can you look at it first. If you get a sensible reply and are happy, then go for it but pay via Paypal and credit card.

As a shooter, the M6 doesn't give you aperture priority auto, which the Bessa does. The Leica should outlast the Bessa however, but a new Bessa should last for as long as you need it to anyway. Then, the M6 *is* a Leica.

I've PM'd him about popping down to sort the deal on the Nokton out in person. It's 60 miles but worth the peace of mind.

I'm not going to get this M6, I have enough money for the R2a and spending money I don't on this is just 'GAS' I suppose.

A sensible man. You have a great lens in the Nokton, and plans for an R2A (why not R3A?).

Get the cash from the bank and go the sixty miles. Although 30/30 is often acceptable. Meeting in a Little Chef or a station buffet halfway cuts costs and time.

If you've got Leica lust, it won't go away. The BIN price is good if everything is as described. The guy has 100% feedback and you've already bought a lens from him. I paid £825 for a minty chrome M6 quite recently, but I'd have been better off with a less than mint one for less money. However, if it puts you in debt then don't do it.

This probably hasn't helped :bang:

Good luck with whatever you decide.

If you already bought from him before, you should be OK, but it's even better if he'll meet you. He takes PayPal -I'm not sure about the consumer protection laws you have in the UK, but in the US credit card purchases can be disputed fairly easily if the item isn't received (and in proper condition).

edit: OOPS! I meant "can be disputed", not "can't"

Gid, luckily I have no Leica lust - well I do, but only in the same way that I would 'like' a massive TV and a new car.

Matt, thanks for that. I've bought a 1.4 Nokton off him this morning, just trying to figure out how to consumate the transaction. He emailed saying pickup was fine and even mentioned a halfway point so I think my Scamdar has been sated now.

Andrew, yeah, it's a bummer and it was a reason why I seriously considered an R3a for a while, but while using my Zorki Mir I've learnt that a 1:1 viewfinder and glasses don't mix for easy shooting.

So after all that, I suppose this is a Heads Up to anyone else looking for a M6 Classic 🙂

It's a fair price. M6's aren't going for that much more from dealers unless collectible and/or mint or nearly so. I bought an M4-P yesterday from LCE in the Strand for £499.00 with a 40mm summicron (just couldn't resist it!!!) - M6's in well-used condition arent that much more but would probably be over £600 from a dealer - you get a guarantee.

I have held a Bessa and looked through the viewfinder. It's not a Leica. I am sure that with proper care and attention the one I bought yesterday will see me out. Would a Bessa? Probably not.
