Last week I picked up a new M6 TTL but because of the small choice of flash units I traded it for a M6 with Viso III, Vivitar 285HV flash, and 200mm Telyt..
I also have a chance to get the 65mm Elmar for the Viso and was wondering if this lens is worth having...

That's a weird decision. The M6 TTLs are newer, and TTL flash is so much better than auto. Visoflexes are a gimmicky way to get an RF to be an SLR. But whatever makes you happy.

I've read the 65mm is very good.

I avoided the M6 TTL due to potential problems [based on posted threads], and I chose a clean M6. More importantly, I use a Canon T90 with a Canon 300TL for flash photography that are hard to beat.

Newer isn't always better.
If you know how to properly use flash it does not matter if you use TTL or the single contact auto/manual flash. Even TTL can be fooled into giving you a false exposure.
The reason for the Viso is so I can use the 200mm and my 400mm Telyt lens on this camera. While I have the Viso II for my M3 the Viso III has instant return mirror.

I've never used it but have the chance to get it.

This one is clean with no noticable marks other than a small (less than 1mm mark on the bottom).
I use the Minolta XD-11 with 360PX flash for TTL flash myself.

Francisco,

I wish I can recall what I looked up online about the M6 TTL. Maybe someone who had such problems can mention them here . I am sure that it is something minor.

Raid, what are the potential problems of a Leica M6TTL? I have two, and should know... That probably means I never had them, but I'd like to be aware.
Early examples had a problem with the meter draining the batteries if not set to off. It was corrected somewhere around serial # 2500000 (so I heard, I've never experienced this problem personaly, mine is sn# 270+). I haven't heard of anything else specific to the TTL (Plastic frame counter, RF flare, etc. all plague other models as well)

65 Elmar

65 Elmar

65mm Elmar and Viso III on an M6TTL is a great combination (though Viso III body is bulky by comparison with Viso II).

Silver earlier lenses more plentiful and cheaper than black (which might have been revised in some way).

Super lens for macro and portrait work, with presets. Probably easiest handling Viso set-up. Also great with Leicaflex SL and adaptor.

Personal opinion but I am happier with the results I have had from this lens than those from an early 65mm Macro R.

BEWARE THE VISO DISEASE
Symptoms include:
Collecting obscure rings and mounts
Admiring odd focal lengths and great big bazookas
Amassing suggestive code names and numbers

The only remedy known is Viso disposal and re-investment in Leicaflex SL or similar, BUT KEEP THE LENSES. They will fit with adaptor 14167...sorry, not cured yet.

The Viso III is a bit more bulky than my II but I like the instant return mirror. I went ahead and picked up the Elmar and will take it out this weekend for a test run.

I may have to pick up the adapter since I have a Leicaflex SL.
