M6 (VF: 0.58) with 50mm, f1.5 Nokton

My 1st experience with voigtlander on my M6 started minutes ago.

I've noticed that the lens seems to be able to focus more than infinity on the viewfinder, whereas the indicator on the lens barrel indicates its actually at infinity mark.

Would like to check if this is common. I'm using the original voigtlander screw to bayonet mount adapter.

The 50mm Nokton was sold to me by the 1st user. During my cleaning on the rear lens, I discovered some signs of coating uneveniness, only visible under my table lamp at certain angle. Would like to check if any user has this experience on their lens too.

I have had a few Voightlander lenses, some have been perfect, others have had spotty or uneven coatings. I think they have low tolerances when it comes to quality control. Having said that I doubt it makes any noticable difference in the photos they take.

Just kidding....I know you guys have an eye for perfection. I believe there was a post I read the other day about cleaning marks and dust specs not showing up on the prints because it's simply too close to focus on. I'm actually looking for a 50 nokton as well, hope you'll enjoy it. Have any photo's to share with us?

Tachi, it's probably your M6 that needs rangefinder alignment. If you have only one lens, try another lens from a shop.

By the way, all my CV lenses, three of them, were in perfect condition optically. Only the Pancake II had one of the glass retaining rings come loose.

The M6 viewfinder is able to align the edge of the building in perfect straight line with the Summicron is position in the infinity mark.

So, I think my M6 rangefinder alignment should be OK, right?

Tachi, if the other M bayonet lenses (like the 35 Summicron you mention) focus fine, my guess is that it must be a fault with the LTM adapter for the Nokton. Have you screwed the lens all the way in?
You might also check visually whether the adapter is flat all around. You can also use a good caliper to measure the thickness all around the rim of the adapter. This happens sometimes, the adapter might be out of tolerance - there was another thread recently about this problem,

Some lenses are designed to focus beyond infinity - including Leica lenses. I don't remember the technicalities, but Stephen Gandy can explain it to you if you e-mail him or post on his cvug message list.

I have never had this problem but I heard of it many times.
Some lenses supposenly have this as a feature to allow them to be used in very extreme climate (apparently at very low temperatures there is a shift of focus, I have been living in Alberta for some time and I never experienced anything like this, not even at -40 C., but this is what I read). Anyway I don't think this is the case with Nokton and I would rather check the alignement of the rangefinder but, before doing this, I would check whether the lens focus properly until infinity (you didn't mention whether it does).
After all this is why a rangefinder is on the camera! If you can focus properly the lens why worry?

Hi, just like to update everyone on this issue. The problem lays with the voigtlander adapter. I managed to try another one, and the "over" infinity symptom just disappear. Another lesson learnt.
