I got my M6 in like mint condition from someone at RFF. Thanks again. It is a gorgeous camera indeed.

if you prefer a simpler camera - for your own shooting style and aesthetics - any of the M6 variations will do. as isaac said, what matters is the camera's individual condition rather than it's vintage. any of the M6s are old and subject to the usual mechanical and electrical deterioration with time.
if you would like auto exposure control and other less frequently used features like timed 30 sec exposures for night shooting, an M7 is for you. practically less subject to age-related deterioration because it's newer to begin with, they can need repair too, depending on pattern of use (or disuse).
preferences are personal and can amount to hair-splitting debates. get one, shoot it, and you'll find out what you really prefer. worst case is that you sell it and buy the one that you've learned from experience will suit you better. which isn't bad at all.

Sorry haven't time to read all the replies so may be repeating stuff here.
M6 TTL is the way to go IMHO. Forget the TTL flash feature although later you may fancy using it, just think of that as a bonus. M6 TTL is well sorted, will be newer and has better meter and that is the reason to choose it over M6. I like a .72 VF which is perfect for 35mm view and can handle down to 28mm and up to 135 (better with a magnifier added on).
M7 only if you want AE and can put up with the other stuff that goes with this model.
Choosing is such fun eh!

A couple of blokes above recommended having the M6 VF rejigged to fix the flare issue. Can someone please describe to me exactly what is involved in that? I just don't want to get into some place like Leica Ginza and be charged a fortune for something that I don't understand.
Does it involved replacing certain parts?
Thanks.
