I am about to enter the Leica world!
I have found an M6 TTL and a summicron 50/2 and I want to make the final step...
My question is: Is the .72x viewfinder good enough for a 50mm lens? The frame seems a bit small to me... In the future I intend to buy a 35 mm lens and to use both.
Is the .72 viewfinder a good choice or should I look for a .85x viewfinder?

If you intend to shoot with 35mm and 50mm lenses, a 0.72x finder is probably your best choice. In an 0.85x finder, the 35mm framelines sit at the very edges of the viewfinder. Personally, I find the 0.85x finder to be ideal for 50-135mm lenses. I usually use my 35mm on my M4 (0.72x). I only ever use it on my M6 (0.85x) if I am caught out with only one body.

I think Magus has given you excellent advice. I have an M6TTL 0.58 with 35mm lens and an MP 0.72 with 50mm lens and am happy with that combination although I can see how the 1.25 magnifier would be useful.

Cheers,
Alex

I have both 0.85 and 0.72 mag bodies and would second all the comments above. My first RF body was an 0.72 because I was interested in 35 and 50 and it has served admirably. You may think the 50mm framelines a little small but consider it this way - there is more room to see what's going on outside the frame! The ability to see the picture in context through the VF is a very important distinguishing characteristic of a RF camera, one that makes it much more practical to use than an SLR in certain picture-taking situations.

I have 2 .85 MP's and 1 .72 MP and M6. I don't wear glasses often so I personally like the additional accuracy of the .85 even with the 35mm frame. If you wear glasses the .85 could be a problem with glasses.

I have an 0.72X M6 and shoot with 50s very often. I always considered I need an M3 with larger magnification for shooting with 50s. Recently however I find myself somehow adapted to the 0.72 magnification when shooting with the 50s. ;) (I still dream for an M3 though:bang: )

So no harm to get an 0.72 M6 for 50s, particularly if you also use 35s. I also find 0.85 too odd for me.:)

Cheers
