In June 2012, I started a thread with this question:
No-LCD digital camera, will we see it soon?
Here is the thread:

M60 answers my question definitely: in 2 years.
I'd also like to award a golden Right-on-target virtual badge to member Lauffray for his post #16 in the above thread. Read it, you'd be amazed how accurate his prediction was.
I'm also reminded again how many said 'never' with conviction.

Congratulations!
Now Leica should give you some tribute for that early marketing decision!

I like the notion of this camera's enforced austerity and simplicity. There are times when that's exactly what I'm looking for in a camera. (There are other times when I really want all the plusses and features, but there are plenty of cameras that satisfy for those times; I already own several of them.)
The M Edition 60 would possibly be my next camera if it were a regular production camera, with black paint or black chrome finish, sold as a specialist-option body for the same price as the M-P. It would compete for my dollars against the M Monochrom or M-P.

That's funny!
I wonder if some people from Leica actually visit forums like this...

I think Leica would continue to profit if this were offered as a modification to existing bodies, or as the next production camera.
Think about it, it's the next "camera zen" so to speak

While Leica are getting all the kudos, Sony are being ignored jumping up and down in the background.
In 2013 they released their QX line of smart lenses. It's operation is exactly as described in the original thread (lcd less camera, bluetooth smart phone interface).

I don't know about Leica any more… The same old variation of the M theme over and over again at increasingly silly prices… $20,000 for the M60 body. White gloves? Really?

Wow, really?
I thought the QX series are lens+sensor with no body, thus won't work without being attached to a smartphone.
I was wondering if we can use a nicely shaped wood block to hold the lens+sensor assembly and send the picture straight to the smartphone in my pocket. Can this be done?

That's a rather naïve statement. Lessee, at Photokina they announced:
M-P
M-A
M Edition 60 kit (body, lens, half case set)
D-Lux
X, and a couple of X2 sibling specials
S model
Four or five new lenses
The M Edition 60 is a body, lens, hood, case and fancy display package. It costs about 30% more than the standard model body, lens and case—pretty common for a special edition of anything.
So they added some white gloves. Big deal. 😊

They are marketed as a lens and sensor, but most of the models really are just a digital camera without an lcd. They have a shutter button and an micro-sd slot and will work without a smart phone connection. The QX1 takes interchangeable lenses.
They are an interesting concept, and do cover the brief you mentioned, just the implementation doesn't seem to be there yet in terms of speed of operation.
