This is more of a question than a complaint but does anyone else find that their m6ttl meter dies if their m6ttl is in extremely cold weather for some time?

I've had my m6ttl for over a year now and I don't recall it ever happening in the past. What I started to do is keep the m6ttl inside my coat while I am walking around so that I can continue to use the meter.

Others care to share their opinions and experienes?

What do mean by 'extremely cold weather'? Be specific in temperature and for how long.
If it has appeared to just start, when was the last time you installed a new battery.-Dick

I think I've had my M6TTL meter give me problems when it's been below freezing, but I think a new battery took care of that problem. It hasn't been that cold here yet (Milwaukee, WI), but I'll find out more myself soon. I usually shoot my MP more these days, but I'm assuming that wouldn't matter as far as the meter goes.

The older/weaker the battery is the more quickly it will die in extreme cold. Even a new battery will die quickly at -20 to -40C if the camera is left to be cold soaked. Also any kind of wind will quicken the process. I don't think this applies only to M6ttls but to any camera that uses a battery to even just power the light meter. Keeping it under your coat while not in use, as you do, is a good idea. I have even heard of photographers attaching chemical hand warmers to their cameras in the area of the battery compartment to help prevent premature battery failure due to the cold. Me, I just remove the battery from my FM2n and leave it at home, relying on a Sekonic meter that needs no batteries to function.

Thanks for the replies people. Sorry for not clarifying,

the battery is a month old. I have put through around 20 rolls of film. I would say temp. is around 20 degrees on the coldest days in Boston MA USA. Maybe around 0 degrees factoring wind chill.

I guess it can't hurt to buy some new batteries and try them out.

Wind chill cannot affect batteries, only warm-blooded beings.

I did not mean wind chill only that wind can quicken the cameras plunge from room temp to outside temp. The camera and battery in it cannot get any colder than what the temp actually is.
