Hi,
Is there meant to be an audible difference between the M6 shutter and M7. A friend has just bought an M7 and it sounds just that little bit more quieter (muffled?) to my M6 one.
Is it the difference between a mechanical set-up and an electro-magnetic system?
I know mine works perfectly as I've put a few rolls of film (transparency) through at all speeds and all have come back spot-on.
My M6 TTL is going back to where I bought it for rangefinder adjustment and I just wondered if it's worth it being checked over or am I just being too fussy.

So much too learn about these M's!

Thanks,

Steve.

Yeah the M7 is a little bit quieter than my M6. It's mostly noticeable at the slower shutter speeds because the M7 makes no sound between the first and second curtains, unlike my M6.

However, we are talking a reasonably subtle difference here. Nothing that would ever have any impact on anything.

I've had one M7 that was quieter than my M6 and MP; and another one that wasn't. And an M7 I tried in a store once was also quieter. I'm sure they are supposed to be quiet. No mechanical gear train whirring--it makes sense.

I'm now evaluating an M7 to be contender to my hard-earned cash.
Side by side to my M6, I also notice M7's shutter sounds is probably a bit quieter, but mostly just sounds differently (kind of different audible frequency spectrum). However, at low speeds it is indeed considerably more subtle then my M6 (also perhaps due to absence of whirling brake mechanism).
And must admit I like that fact.

Having said that, I notice film winding sound of M7 exhibits ratchet-like sound while on M6 there is no such (and thus is quieter).
