I just got a great deal on a used .85 M7.

ISO dial seems off by one notch. If I manualy set ISO and turn on camera to see ISO displayed within first two seconds. it is one ISO step ahead. I swapped out a fresh pair of batteries to make sure.

Seems to not have been upgraded to optical DX, as I can see pins in film chamber.

Will leica upgrade free of charge?

Also is the Finder upgrade really worth $600??

Thanks all!

You might want to check with Leica USA in New Jersey. Best advice is to go to the main Leica web page and look for customer service. The is a form for both service centers, U.S. and Wetzlar. I don't know if they still do the upgrade to an optical reader for free but the finder upgrade is well worth it. The finder windows are replaced with multicoated glass and the prism is modifide to reduce finder flare.

If you have the user manual, the v/f readouts are explained on page 77. If not, if you have a DX film loaded, it will always show the DX rating, but the value will flash in the v/f if you have set a different speed manually. There are different displays for different combinations of box speed but without the DX patch on the film canister.

If your v/f readout is showing a different setting to the set speed by one notch, then you might cure the problem by spinning the ISO dial in both directions to clear any oxidisation on the contacts. If that doesn't do the trick, then it may be that the rear dial needs replacing - at which time Leica Solms should (or did) replace both free of charge.

Hope you get it sorted.

Just spoke to Leica NJ, and Optical sensor it is still free of charge!
Finder upgrade cost would be based on an "Estimate"???

They need to determine the type of upgrade your finder needs. I'll send you a PM to give you some idea.

The finder upgrade is worth it, especially so for the 0.85 finder, which flares more badly than the lower magnification finders.
