M8 à la carte is it possible?

In the optic of spending a big lot of money for an M8 I wander if (as it happens with other models) will be possible to have an à la carte model, with personal colours and materials: it should be very nice and maybe an investment.... any rumours?

As long as there is great demand for the standard M8, then I forsee Leica justing sticking with that model. It's a business decision. To generate sales, Leica will, someday in the future, come foward with special edition M8s, some modifications to the M8, ect., but I don't think those sales are needed now. Leica's probably going to have enough M8 orders in the next year or so that their resources will be at full production.

Ezio, why should a personalized camera be an investment as long as the owner is not some sort of celebrity who could sell his used underwear for a fortune?

Since the M8 doesn't have an advance lever or rewind and there is only one finder magnification, and is available standard in silver or black chrome, the number of optional permutations is somewhat limited. Once the M8 is available for delivery, regardless of what Leica choses to do, Aki Asahi and/or Morgan Sparks will almost certainly measure one up and offer their assortment of coverings.

What about extending the a la carte choices:

- Choose sensor 10, 15, 20 MP
- Choose color, b&w
- Choose crop factor 1x, 1.33x, 1.66x, 2x
- Choose lens mount M, LTM
- Choose metering pattern centerfield, spot, matrix, none
- Choose rangefinder magn. 0.5x, 0.75x, 1.0x, 1.25x
- Choose framelines wide, normal, all

Not talking about crocodile leatherettes, hammertone paints, jewel inlets and gold-plated SD cards
