Got to see the new 8.2 today at the photo expo here in Calgary... I was interested mainly in hearing the new shutter.
So for all of you wondering, in my ears, there's quite a difference with the upgraded shutter. It definitely is more muted and smoother sounding - less of the uber-expensive-automatic-stapler sound of the original shutter. I noticed this immediately as I played with both M8 & M8.2 at the expo.
I mentioned it sounded smoother, but it also felt a little smoother as well - less inertia from the shutter I'm guessing?
If I could afford the upgrade, I'd proceed with it - the difference was compelling enough for me.... but these are my ears not any one else's

Yeah ...BUT!!!! as long as that grinding sound is right there after it what is the point.

Grinding sound? you mean the winding mechanism? I never thought it sounded like it was grinding ...
The upgraded shutter sounded smoother throughout the whole shutter cycle (firing - winding)...
