M8 28mm ELMARIT FRAME LINE PROBLEM

Hi. I have an M8 which I (perhaps foolishly) paid to have upgraded because I could not stand the shutter noise compared with the old M6 I sold to buy it and also found that what I saw through the viewfinder when using my Elmarit-M 28 Asph lens just didn't resemble the final image.

After all that cost i am still having real problems using this lens with the M8. I have lens detection on but the framelines in the viewfinder are small and bear no resemblance to the final image. Objects that are at the edge of my field of vision in the viewfinder are well within the borders of the final image. This is true with objects a long way away as well as those within, say, 20 ft.

When I use the same lens on a Voightlander with 28mm lens pre-selected I get completely different framelines to those the M8 gives me. My old (unchipped) 50mm lens seems to have more or less the right framleines on the M8.:bang: What is going on? How do I use this lens on the M8? HELP!

I recently bought a 50mm summicron for my M8 that did not click in place on the mount. Because the lens did not click in place, it could be over or under rotated in the mount affecting which viewfinder lines were displayed. I wonder if you are seeing the framelines for a completely different lens like I did.

the framelines are changed by a mechanical arm which links in with a tab on the lens mount, the menu setting plays no part.
To see which arm it is, take the lens off and move the frame selector lever on the left side of the front of the camera, the 28mm setting should be the outer frame when the lever is pressed pointing towards the lens mount.
If your lens is mounted properly and not giving that, then there is an issue with the lens mount or you haven't rotated it fully into the camera.

Also your Voigtlander will give a wider view as the M8 uses a chip smaller (cropped) than the 35mm frame
