The M-grip for the M8/9 seems to be very different from that of the M7. I'd be interested in hearing from users on the pros and cons.

Big YMMV alert here...I tried the M8 grip and thought "wow, if I wanted a DSLR I'd use a DSLR." To me, it completely nullified several of the advantages of the M body. I bought a Thumbs Up "advance lever" CSEP-1 from Match Technical instead. As I said, YMMV.

I agree with YMMV comment. Although the other way. My hands are large and fingers long. Without the grip The M8 feels uncomfortable to me. My favorite film M is the M5 although at this point I no longer have it. You will likely need to try it to know for sure. With the RD1 the Zhou case with the little kidney grip was enough to make the camera handy. I tried the Luigi case with kidney grip on the M8 and went straight back to the M-grip. Don't quite see the DSLR comparison :?

I use the grip for the M8 by PhotoEqup and find it keeps my hand from cramping when I carry the camera in hand. I don't find it too large but I don't know how it compares the Leica M8 grip.

I also use their earlier model on my M2 and really didn't like handling the camera until I did. My Bessa R2a was more comfortable to carry for me in this way.

I have a Thumbs-Up as well and it helps grip too, but sometimes I dare to use a little flash and the Thumbs-Up does make the hot shoe into a cold shoe. If Leica restored the PC port or the Thumbs Up figured out a pass-thru capability, I'd use it more.

As things are, I carry the M8 with the PhotoEquip grip all the time and slip on the Thumbs Up when I expect to be carrying the M8 in hand w/o flash most of the time, eg. street shooting or candids at parties.
