Just used this lens for the first time last nite, professionally.
With all the back and forth on this lens, i had to find out for myself. Have to say - its killer.
I love the way it draws, feels great on the M8.
For all those out there on the fence. Zeiss has done something truly special in my opinion, releasing a new lens with a distinctive look.
Optimized for 1.5. Shot wide open (always).

The Sonnar is something of it own indeed.

Most people who try to shoot with it, love it.
Those who look at specifications, test charts and focus shifts, make all kinds of assertions.
Like you, I think it's brilliant, especially on the M8. I have probably used the 1,5/50 more than any other lens on my M8.
Cheers,
R.

I think the issue is that people find it too hard to decide between optimum at f.15 or f2.8. All in all I really love vignetting for portraiture and this lens does it just fine

Can anyone tell me how the ZM 50 1.5 compares to the CV 50 1.5?
I guess not many of us buy both of them.

Great images, from both of you. I love the contrast, it seems to work great for the subjects.

Actually, I have both. Since getting the Sonnar I have not used the Nokton. My wife likes the Sonnar but is still happy enough with the Nokton, though I'm not sure how far that is because she regards the Sonnar as 'mine' in the same way that I regard (for example) the 28/1.9 Ultron as 'hers'.
The Nokton is sharper, with better illumination and less focus shift, which shows that objective criteria aren't everything. It's also a lot bigger and heavier.
Cheers,
R.

I actually own both as well.
I found the nokton to be easier to use...
But I have also not used the nokton at all since I've gotten the Sonnar.

Hi,
Just out of interest, what sort of ISO did you use for these shots?

Both the Zeiss and the other thing are good lenses but they are nothing special (not to undermine them at all). What is special is the Sumilux 50 f/1.4 and as good as the two aforementioned are, they're not in the same league optically. There is a reason why the Leica glass costs as much as it does and trust me, it ain't the red dot. What is exceptional are the images that both of you have made with your eyes and in the post with your combined skills ... they're fantastic!
