Do the brightlines on the M8 only detect correctly when a Leica coded lens is attached.
If for instance a 28mm Zeiss lens is fitted do you have to constantly set the brightlines after each shot.

The coding is only for exif data. It has nothing to do with the framelines. You put a non-coded lens on, you get the proper "cropped" framelines, but the exif data will indicate only the shutterspeed etc., no aperture. You put a coded lens on, you get the proper "cropped" framelines and the exif data will display the aperture used in recording the image. Of course using a coded lens, the firmware of the camera will know how to compensate for the cyan drift on the edges one gets when using wideangle lenses with IR filters.
